We are thinking about purchasing DVC on the resale mkt. We have our hearts set on BWV, with BC as a backup and wilderness as "ok"

IF we bought in this month, assuming 60 to 90 day closing and transfer, would we be able to stay in Sept/ early Oct or would everything be sold out? (Staying at another resort is ok)

TIA

Everything? Probably not everything, especially if you stalk and waitlist. But any Epcot resorts will be tough sledding. Of course, it will depend on your length of stay, size of accommodations, etc.

I was anxiously waiting for my BWV contract to close and points to be loaded to book a similar trip. I was just able to book yesterday. For studios BWV is completely booked in October except a couple days at the beginning and end of the month. I ended up booking late Sept into Oct, Sept is pretty much completely available for Studio Pool/Garden. There is full availability for 1-BR Pool/Garden view.

I only glanced at BC, but I remember basically no availability Oct-Dec (I didn't look at Sept). The difficulty will be that the 7-month window for Sept-Oct booking at any resort will likely open before you get access to your points.

But I agree if you're flexible, you may be able to stalk/waitlist a stay together! Sept is definitely better than Oct!

Hold out for BWV, schedule a vacation after you close at BWV if rooms available. Don't settle and rush just because you are now buying. If you end up skipping a vacation this year, save the money for your dues bill. You will have plenty of BWV vacations in the years to come.

Given the timelines involved, you will need to get a 1BR. I expect even Saratoga to be a hot mess when 7 months opens. Right now, all of October is still open at Saratoga and OKW, but almost everywhere else has issues. AKV Savannah and BLT Lake studios have good open, but will go POOF when 7 month booking open.

This, absolutely! Sometimes those urges override logic, I know the feeling. In the long run, you will appreciate waiting for what you want.

The resale process takes 60 to 90 days to get your points so you won’t have access to your points till the end of March or April. So you might get in under the 7 month window.

Anything is possible. My contract total took about 50 days from offer to having full access to my account, but I had an awesome seller and broker. Best of luck to you. Hope for the best but plan for the worst.

Well, I made an offer on BWV that was reasonable for our budget and has banked points already, and it was accepted, so....
That's great! Good luck!! Our first contract took under 60 days to get to points in our account, so you might get lucky!

Good luck neighbor!! The BWV contract I bought was loaded too and it’s been fun to play with so many points :-)
The only problem with that is... then you get used to having a bunch of points to use your first year, and so you *need* more ... and then ... addonitis....
(We had 310 BLT points to use in 2018, and then somehow 185 points a year wasn't enough.... )

Addonitis is so euphemistic. Try more like heroine addiction.

I actually was able to book 2 consecutive days at BCV in a 1 BR in July 2016 for a November 2016 stay...so it is possible. So long as you complete the transfer prior to 7 months of travel date, you should be able to get something. If you're willing to do a split stay, then it shouldn't be too big of an issue. And if you are booking in March for an october or november stay, I would be willing to bet your waitlist will come through so long as you book single days (i.e., book what you can and then book the single days as fill ins).

To that point, DW and I did a 4 night stay at three resorts.

BLT studio
AKL kidani 1 BR
BCV 1 BR (2 nights)

It was good in that we got to experience three different resorts. Obviously, not ideal for hanging out at the pool, and moving that many times is somewhat exhausting. All in all, I'm glad we did it so we could get a feel for three different resorts. I wouldn't do it again, but it suited our purposes, particularly since we had 61 points that were going to expire. We burned through an extra 50 or so since we had to book 1 BRs...but I'm still glad we got to experience all of the different resort and floor plans.

Ha this is very true... we're already looking at Poly resales! Our contract basically gave us 450 points to use in the fall since it had banked 2016 points too. So many possibilities :-P

Oct UY doesn't seem to be very common though for Poly though, we may consider BLT too if we see a good deal... but we can wait for the right one to come along :-)

I'm considering buying a DVC resale for either BWV or BC in the hopes of being able to use my points for an October/November trip. I've been considering buying for years and finally looks like it may happen this year. I also thought I might have to rent points for this year's trip if the resale process takes too long.

On a side note (sorry OP!) - any recommendations for a great broker to use?

October/November of THIS year? You're really too late. You bid and get accepted tomorrow, you won't have ROFR and close before 7 months opens for November. There are already gaps in availability for both BCV and BWV for studios in both of these months, as well - depending on dates and desires, you may be too late to rent points for this year. Studios and 2BRs are really gone.

I made a few offers and worked through several brokers... Carole at Timeshare Resales USA had the best and fastest response to me, not much selection on her site, but she works well with other brokers and found me a great deal. Jeffrey Sweet was the closing attorney and his assistant Melissa has been super about keeping me up to date and answering all my questions.
