DVC resale process question with timing

Hi. My husband and I are thinking about a DVC resale purchase. However, we really want to go to WDW from Dec 14-Dec 23rd or so. We will be paying cash for the DVC if that matters. How long is the resale process? Would it even be possible to find a resale that worked for us, purchase it and then reserve anything for Dec 2011? If there is a thread that has already covered this, please direct me to it. Thanks so much.

We put in a bid for a resale contract last mid-October. We closed just before Thanksgiving. We were in the Disney system with points right around December 1st. We book our first trip Jan 16-25. We had to change rooms, but we had a great trip and time and planned our trip at only 6 weeks out. I don't know if December will be busier, but I would think that you should be able to close and get a reservation, especially if you're flexible on location.

We also paid cash, and the resale value was an important factor to us.

I would think you would have a chance for OKW or Saratoga resort. I have never made December reservations but have heard they fill up fast.

December is a very popular time so depending on where you want to stay, and in what room type, it might be tricky.

However, if you buy now, you will close during everyone's home resort booking time so its possible to get something, especially if you are considering SSR, OKW or AKV due to their size.

If you are interested in one of the smaller resorts, especially VWL, I think it could be tricky and you might have to wait list or wait until the 7 month window to get something.

Many who travel during this time book 11 months out. Good luck!

We purchased last June, and when everything was set with our membership the beginning of July we were able to find availability for Dec 20-26. AK Studio.
This year we were ready to go at 11 months 9am and booked BLT.

We closed last year right before Halloween, had our points beginning of November and booked a room for Dec 16-Jan 5. I had to do lots of persistent calling and waitlists but had 1 studio at SSR for the entire time.

The previous posters are correct. With persistence and phone calls and/or wait lists, you should be able to reserve a villa in December if you purchase your resale points within a short time from now.
