DVC renting: Room switch if problems with room?

Hello everyone. We are considering renting a DVC room through an agency for later this year. My only concern is if DVC is good about correcting issue if you get a "problem" room (IE: mold issue, etc). I have a kid that absolutely cannot stay in a moldy room due to health issues, and I know this is something that people sometimes encounter in the resorts. I know if we reserve on the Disney side, a room switch is almost always a possibility. This would really be the only reason we would ask for a switch, so I appreciate the feedback. Thanks for your help.

Disney is generally accommodating, but some of it will depend on what's available.

Thank you Yinn. This would be a first for us, and the only thing I am really stressing about if we commit. I am otherwise easy to please, but can't be risky for my boy. Thanks for the reply.

Pre-COVID, the DVC resorts often were 100% booked. I'm not sure if COVID has changed that (not as a policy, just in terms of reservations made). If all of the rooms were booked, there might not be a room to give you at the same hotel.

Also, if you are in a studio and are upgraded to a 1-bedroom, you need to be careful because they might charge the member the extra points required for that upgrade.

I might rethink it if you're going to go in Oct. Some resorts may also be riskier than others simply due to actual lack of capacity. But in this regards DVC operates the same as the cash side in terms of attempting to accommodate.

You might want to note on your room request specifically that your boy has a health/breathing issue with increased sensitively to mold and mildew. That might help the room planners as well. Idk if anything actually happens in the background but I'd like to think they might give it extra consideration.

There are always a small amount of rooms left open for issues such as these. They do get used up of course so its very possible you can be denied a room transfer during a busy time.

For OP. The front desk for the DVC hotel side(for all resorts except (Riviera, OKW, and Saratoga) are the same from desk and you get the exact same service for maintenance issues. So there is no greater risk than there would be if renting a hotel room from Disney. If you have a legitimate complaint and they have a room available, they will. move you.

Thank you for this info!

The issues would be certainly taken care of if concerned a health or safety risk, no different than any hotel

However, that doesn’t mean you will end up in the same room type or even resort if nothing it there. As noted, rooms should be kept for emergency but nothing to guarantee that those are open if others have situations as well.

I will say that the options for moving to other rooms at a resort will always be much greater as a cash guest just because. as already mentioned, DVC rooms run at high occupancy especially in the fall.

As owners, we pay to ensure rooms are well maintained as one would expect in hotels!!

It would be early December. Thank you. For some reason I thought the DVC side was separate from Disney in regards to customer service, unless you book through central reservations.

Thank you! Yes, we have always been cash and I haven't worried.

This makes me feel much better. Feedback much appreciated.

The DVC side is separate when it comes to housekeeping frequency, but not in regards to customer service, especially when a problem such as mold/mildew is the issue. DVC owners shouldn't have to stay in moldy rooms either! If you do rent for this stay, ask the owner to chat or email Member Services to make a note on your reservation that your son has serious health issues related to mold/mildew. That will help the room assigners - but as I said, DVC owners shouldn't have to stay in a moldy room.

Agree that no one should be in a moldy room. Glad to hear that member services can note health concerns. Thank you!
