I'm not sure if I should post this here or where. I've rented a DVC for our upcoming trip, and neither of my renters have done it often enough to answer most of my questions. If you can, here goes:

1. When/can I confirm my reservations on the rooms I rented?

2. Can I make the Magical Exrpress reservations myself or does the renter have to?

3. Can I make any room requests myself, or do I have to go through the renter?

I only ask because I hate to put any more work on the renter's side than I have to...and I like to be in control...sometimes...okay, most of the time.

Thanks!

The owner will need to make your ME arrangements as well as adding any room requests to the reservation. Member services will mail a confirmation letter to the owner and you can request them to mail/fax it to you (keep in mind that it will take a couple of weeks). Other than that, you really can't do anything else to confirm until just a few days before check-in at which time the resort will have your actual reservation information and you can call them directly.

If you are someone that likes to be in complete control, renting DVC points may be a bit difficult for you as the owner maintains complete control over the reservation.

Hi,

I'm renting from two different owners for our upcoming trip and I have a few questions, if anyone can help answer them:

1. Can I (the renter) call for room requests?

2. Can I make the Magical Express reservations?

3. When can I call to confirm with Member Services?

4. Can I, the renter, do anything for myself while renting?

I hate to put any more work on the owners than I have to, so I'm trying to field these questions and do some of it myself, if possible.

Thanks!

Nope-the owner has to do all that. MS won't talk to anyone except the owner.

Just to clarify, the member retains control of the reservation up until the moment you check in. So, MS won't discuss it with you or make any changes to it. In fact, MS will not even speak with non-members.

The members that you rented from will need to add your requests and set up ME for you.

You can't confirm the reservation through MS. About 5 days before your arrival date, your reservation will be downloaded to the resort. At that time, you can call the resort directly and confirm your reservation.

You are writing a big check to the owners - a few calls to MS isn't unreasonable. It's the folks who want owners to make a million calls to MS checking availability before they commit to a rental that get annoying.

1. When/can I confirm my reservations on the rooms I rented?

:flower3:[/QUOTE]

When we rented I read somewhere that you can call your resort a day or 2 before arrival and confirm...this did not work for me...I just had to get by on some "faith, trust, and pixie dust":rotfl:

Just a mod note:

The OP had two nearly identical threads running, I merged them. That is why the above replies may seem a little out of sequence, and why Goalie5holes quote doesn't exactly match the OP. :)

This is great guys. Thanks for the knowledge and advice. And thank you, Chuck S for merging my threads, I wasn't sure how to move them around.

Happy Summer Days!

I had a renter that needed confirmation numerous times throughout the process. Needless to say, I sent lots of e-mails and had numerous calls.

I copied the information from my vacation section of the member website, I sent confirmation letters via e-mail and USPS after every change (waitlisted for two days and they came through), set up DDP and ME on two separate occasions, and had to followup on a mix up with his ME.

He called yesterday (he checks in today) and left a frantic call because the resort did not have his reservation number. I called back in the evening when I got home (of course MS was closed) and it turns out that the first person he talked to could not get the reservation number to come up on the system. :scared1: The CM on his second call found it.

Needless to say, I really didn't mind making the calls, etc. However, the rentor can only do so much to ensure that everything will work out o.k. There has to be a bit of trust and faith on both sides.

Good luck!

One note... a room request with Disney is just that, a request! Some of my trips, they are completely filled, others nothing. I might have well not made them. It is luck of the draw at check in.

If you want the Disney Dining Plan, which you did not mention... the owner has to book that also. There is a certain time frame to book it too. It has to be paid at check in. I believe it is 3 days prior to checking in, but things change all the time at Disney. I have had Member Serivces give me a couple of different time frames. I would not wait until the last minute.

Magical Express needs to be booked when you have finalized your air arrangements. Air can change, so make sure if it does, your owner knows he will have to make the change for you.

As far as not wanting to bother the owner, this is part of the responsibility of renting. :thumbsup2

I rented points from someone in January and it was really a great process. It was her first time so I was the one to tell her about DDP. :)
I emailed her when we made our flight arrangements and got the tags from ME soon after.
I called SSR a few days before we left and they had me in their computers. I was a little nervous until I checked in, even though I was pretty sure everything was legit. it does a take some trust., but so worth it. Now we plan to buy DVC. :) It was just such a great experience.

I have called the resort after receiving the confirmation letter months in advance of the actual trip. Ask to speak to the front desk, they should have the info if you give them the confimation number.
