I am looking to rent points for a trip in 2025 with either David’s or DVC Rental Store.

I see that DVC rental store tends to be priced a bit higher than David’s. I do like that they do not require payment in full and this is probably why they are sometimes priced higher.

They do offer a price match but only with a quote from the other company. Has anyone ever done this or know of someone who did?

I have not, but interesting to hear they do that. It must be new? Weve used them multiple times. It's also priced higher because they allow cancellations.

I was surprised myself. I contacted them and asked about it and this is the email I received from them:

Thanks so much for contacting the DVC Rental Store! We do offer price matching, and will match quotes from David's Vacation Club Rentals (dvcrequest.com), as well as DVC-Rental.com, so long as the reservation details match.

Once your Availability Request is received, and you have received an official quote from us, you can provide the quote you received from one of the two competitors mentioned above, and we will be happy to adjust the pricing.

yeah, when they "price match" a points request, it just means they list the request with a lower per point pay-out amount for owner of the points. Case in point, a couple of 7+ month VGF listings for $12 to the owner. No Thanks!
Good luck getting that filled at 7+ months.

So basically just book with David’s…..

I read another post of people having issues getting their reservations through the rental store and going to David’s and securing a reservation much easier.

Why not just rent from another member? Cut out the middle man and save more $$!

I did that once and it worked well but it still makes me nervous especially with everything that went down with rentals during rentals . I may go that route but just looking at all options.

What went down? I haven't used Disboards in a few years. I just remember an attorney who was one of my first renters. I asked about a contract. He said that they were rarely enforceable and why would anyone use DVC to scam someone? Of course, those were very different times.

I’m sorry. I had a typo. Should’ve said “rentals during Covid.”

I don’t know specifics but it was a mess when the resorts closed and people who were renting points wanted refunds, etc.

Makes total sense. I was lucky to have not been in that situation. Were the rental companies like David's any better at refunding? I would imagine that they were a mess too.

They were awful, and David's probably got the worst black eye of all of them. At first they wouldn't do anything (David himself was reportedly cruising around Hawaii at the time), citing their "no refunds" policy. Then they settled on a policy of demanding that the owners pay David's back whatever amount they had received, but instead of refunding that amount of money to the renters, they issued them "credit certificates" good for two years for the amount of money the renter had paid, with the caveat that when they booked their new stay, if the price had gone up in the meantime, the renter had to pay the difference. There is a very long thread back in the archives, plus a number of shorter ones. David's wasn't the only agency to have problems, of course, but its name seemed to come up in more posts here, both from owners and from renters.

That is awful and unfortunate.

I’m glad to see someone used them with success. I paid the deposit after confirming availability but now have to wait for it to be booked.

I was able to secure a reservation for September with DVC Rental Store the day it was eligible to be booked. They found a renter who made the reservation. It was a few dollars more per point than David's, but I like that I can cancel if needed and at least get a credit. I did find out that you need to do the price match before you secure a booking with DVC Rental. I wonder if they will look as hard for you if you are paying less...

Despite having booked in the past, I will never recommend them. Twice I've been burned on their "confirmed" reservations not actually being bookable. One I had paid $4000 and the member didn't respond. The other didn't even exist as member had already cancelled.

The final straw is they refused to have the member remove us from a cancelled reservation. It was cancelled per their policy and they assured me it was on the Rental Store's end, but it took 7 months of complaints and finally a data law threat to get them to FINALLY have the member remove us and MDE reflect it.

Oh no! I just paid the deposit today.

We priced match at DVC rental store using David's pricing in early October for a BWV stay over the 4th of July next year (~9 months out). I put in the price match and request in mid-September and we had the reservation finalized 3 weeks later in early October. Was really easy for us but this was the first time we'd tried that so can't say how consistent and/or easy it normally is.

I sure wish I found this before I gave them money. Praying it will turn out ok. Did you find out before you went?
I did. The one where the deposit was paid, the member never responded or finalized. It was last minute, but the bad thing was I had $4k I had to get refunded. Thankfully we weren't dependent on that money for the trip and in fairness, they refunded quickly.
