DVC registered in Alberta

We just got a call from Heidi and she informed us that DVC has registered to sell in Alberta.

Some people swear by it and love it. We really regret buying at AKV and wished we had waited and bought at GCV. Even then the MF is what finally made us decide to get rid of it.

I went online to request the DVD but the only way they will send you one is if you live in Ontario. What happens for us Albertans?

Really? A timeshare is not a new thing.

About 10 grand got me 100 points at BLT. So for the next 51 years I will be able to take a 6 or 7 day trip to Disney. If you travel to Disney Yearly and stay in a Deluxe hotel its a good idea.

Appreciate your reply. I'm new to this type of share business. Heard about some of them but I'm not familiar with the costs or how they work.

Is it worth the money? in that you spend substancially less when you go on trips? If you do, I can see how you would try to get it, definitely worth it for larger family.

Would be curious to hear if it's really worth the savings long term?

Well, It depends on what your vacation habits are like. A deluxe hotel goes for 350 to 600 a night depending on the hotel. So thats between 2100 and 3600 for a 6 night trip. So with DVC your hotel is paid for. You still need tickets and such.

DVC is not for everyone, but it can save lots of money over the life of the contract.

It tends to work if you go to disney at least once every 2 years and stay in deluxe resorts.

Uh oh! It was a lot easier to avoid an add on when we could only buy while we were in Florida.

Of course, it looks like the DVC resale market has dramatically slid downward and good deals can be had that way, too.

Hey thanks Mike for the info. Makes me understand how it works a lot better. Definitely sounds like it would be a good deal if you travel lots. Let's say I were to set something up for DL in California. Would it mean that my stays would be free as long as I can book the trip at a time where they have free space? Once you get the package, does it mean you are covered for a free stay the rest of your life? every time you go down then or do you get discounts. Are you limited to a certain amount of time a year?

I'm heading out to the DVC board to see if I can find more information.

Let's say I were to set something up for DL in California. Would it mean that my stays would be free as long as I can book the trip at a time where they have free space? Once you get the package, does it mean you are covered for a free stay the rest of your life? every time you go down then or do you get discounts. Are you limited to a certain amount of time a year?

Once you buy in to DVC you get a yearly allotment of points. These points are used to book your hotel room. A studio (Hotel room) ranges from 11 to 56 points a night depending on resort, view, time of year that sorta thing.

These points can be used at any DVC resort as long as there is availability, so yes you would be able to go to DL as long as you were able to book. You can also transfer your points out to a different timeshare company and see 100s of other places around the world. (at a fee)

There is an end to the contract so at some point you will be done with dvc, Bay lake tower ends 2060, I will be 72 at that time and don't think I will be doing much travailing anyways.

I can only hope that BC is in the works... with the new DVC in Cali and Hawaii in 2011 I'd hope they are working to reach out to us west coasters...

Yes I am a DVC member. You dont need to be an Albertan or Ontarian to join... we just had to join while at Disney as our provincial laws do not allow them to do any selling/promoting here.

Just remember to include flights, food, tickets/or AP costs, souvies and maintenance fees with trip costs. Our maintenance fees ran approx 1060.00US for 2008. They cannot increase point per night stays but they can shift them which they did recently and maintenance fees usually go up slightly every year. Your stays are never free you pre-pay them at a discounted price and maintain them with your maintenance fees. We really enjoyed staying in a deluxe but we found we spend so little time in the room it was not worth it for us eg: AKV concierge at Christmas was nice however you have to be AT the hotel to enjoy it. We recently came back from our first value stay and honestly the only thing I missed was the hot tub lol. If you plan on going more than once a year it may be worth it for you. Some time down the road I may look at GCV. it is so incredibly cheap to stay offsite at DL however. Good luck with your research!
