we sty at the SeaWatch in Myrtle every summer. It’s a Wyndham resort. If we were to trade points to stay there is it easy to do? How far in advance would we need for something like. Also any idea of approx points to stay a week in Myrtle? Trying to see if would be worth it if we bought in to DVC. Thanks

Seawatch is almost always booked by wyndham owners for summer months quickly after the 10-month window opens. They do not deposit until 7-8 months prior to check-in, so an RCI deposit for a summer Seawatch week is unlikely

Thanks so getting summer weeks at Myrtle may be tuff? Approx how many points would it be? Thanks

For most DVC owners it is a poor use of points to exchange into RCI. What is because you pay approx 150 points for a studio in rci and those 150 DVC points cost much more in annual dues than you most likely could rent the week for with an owner. Combined with the high upfront cost to buy the dvc points you are better off renting your points and then renting the week you want at the resorts. Also you might need more than just a studio if you book through RCI and then the math will be even worse.

Perhaps only for long time DVC owners it is ok to exchange through RCI as their upfront cost was much lower than today but their annual dues are still high. I think that a lot of dvc owners are not using RCI thats why they waived the exchange fee to get the owners back in.

For the Wyndham properties, there is a chance of getting something at Ocean Blvd but Wyndham typically deposits Tower 4 if anything (Tower 4 is the one across the street from the beach). There might be opportunities at Towers on the Grove; that one is new enough that I don't know the booking patterns there yet.

But, as mentioned, renting your points out and just using the cash to book what you want is probably a better value, though it is also a little more work.

Our Hawaii stay through RCI cost 150 and $95 for a one bedroom for a week with 2 Queen beds, double sleeper sofa and full kitchen. I do not think it was a poor choice.

You probably are not using direct points that cost $176pp, though.

The economics of trade has evolved.

I don't think most people would think that far through it. It comes down to what you want to do with your points and are comfortable with doing. Not everyone wants to mess with renting them out or even knows you can.

But I agree in the fact if you want mrytle beach every year own a timeshare there. That is the point of them.

My point is more that when you ask a forum of DVC owners about point use and if something is "worth it," the range of "worth" has changed quite a lot in even the last 5 years. Most people who ask about trade ask about "worth it."

Even not looking at people who bought OKW for $48-65pp, even in 2012 you could get AKV direct for $125.

So you have to be careful in defining "worth." Worth what?

I think the week on Maui in February for 150 points and $95 was better than anything DVC offers in any resort for the price. JMO

I went to Myrtle Beach once, very busy place in summer. Roads were gridlocked. Is that usual?

I guesss depends where u stay. We stay closer to north Myrtle. Sea watch resort
Great beach and pools and lots for kids

HI can be an exception and the value for a 1 BR is far better than a 2 BR where applicable.

In reality they always do. To use what one paid has no reflection on the current value, this is a common mistake people make it seems.

If your cost is$50 a point and the current value of a point is $15 pp, it's still a $15 pp value. One can certainly chose to use them any way they want but the reality is there is a real and tangible value. Renting out the points is also easier than ever. So if one uses 250 points for a 2 BR red time exchange at a Gold Crown resort with RCI, they are actually saying this exchange is worth around $3750 to them whether they think about it that way or not. There are some exchanges where that is reasonable but not many and certainly not MX.

For RED time it'll be 150 for a 1BR and 260 for a 2BR for a Gold Crown Resort and I believe Seawatch is Gold crown though there are a few resorts that may be better choices. Through RCI, the Hilton Resort might be the best choice for many. Overall the Marriott is the top choice IMO. Availability in the summer is tough. I'd put in an ongoing search at least a full year out. But to buy planning to trade is an extremely poor choice, too many uncertainties and DVC is far too costly for that to make sense. Better to buy in to DVC with less points AND Wyndham or to use cash for one or the other than to try to use DVC for other stays. Now it might be possible to buy Wyndham and trade to DVC though more recently all that's been available are 1BR at SSR.
