We just bought into the Saratoga Springs in 2003.

My wife said that whenever we choose to use points, the point cost of the resort is taken from the 2003 costs. So if I go to the WLV in 2005, I pay 2003 points. Is this correct?

We are going to stay at the POFQ June 20-27, 2004. We would have stayed at the Saratoga Spring but we gave the points to my sister and her fiance for their honeymoon in November 2004. What benefits/perks am I entitled to when paying for my trip next week?

Can I pool hop or use the health clubs?

Thanks:jester:

First, let us give you a "welcome home".

My wife said that whenever we choose to use points, the point cost of the resort is taken from the 2003 costs. So if I go to the WLV in 2005, I pay 2003 points. Is this correct?

I think what you are asking is if the point cost for your vacation will ever change, and the answer is a firm maybe. The total number of points at any resort will never change, but disney can reallocate the points needed from season to season. Keep in mind that if they raise the point requirement in one season, they must lower it someplace else to keep things in balance. In browsing the boards, I think this has happened once or twice in the beginning of DVC.

A member needs to be in a DVC resort to poolhop or use the health facilities from what I understand. Spose they look for the room key. You can valet park at DVC resorts and get some dining discounts.

Anyone else know of perks for members not staying in resorts?

I'm just going to hit the first one, because I knwo it best.

"My wife said that whenever we choose to use points, the point cost of the resort is taken from the 2003 costs. So if I go to the WLV in 2005, I pay 2003 points. Is this correct?"

She's kind of right. The yearly allotment for points at a particular resort can never change (i.e., if you stayed 365 at the resort, the points will always be the same). DVC can re-alot the points, however. They can make certain dates higher points while balancing by reducing points for other dates. So, you cannot always look at the 2003 point calendar to figure out how many points, but it if rates for a particular resort go up at one time, they must go down at another time.

Clear as mud?

You get 10% off LOS passes and 10 to 20% off at various restaurants at WDW just for being a DVC member.

Another year to year change, is that they move the Easter and Thanksgiving dates to match the calendar. This can make the point cost go up or down year-to-year in February (as an example) because the dates shifted.

If you are a cash paying customer at PO, you are not entitled to any DVC member perks, except valet parking at the DVC resorts. All other perks are for members staying on points.

Hi there! And WELCOME HOME!:teeth:

As other's have just answered, points can be aloted differently for different season's -- must go down somewhere if they go up somewhere else.

As for your benefits to being a DVC member go --

Not sure about the health clubs - if you are a guest of the resort that has a health club I'm sure you are entitled to use it - not sure about if you are staying at FQ and want to use the health club at WL or anyplace else though.

As for pool hopping you need to be staying at a DVC resort on points in order to be aloud to pool hop. You will receive a resort I.D. card with "DVC MEMBER" imprinted on it and that is what lets the CM's know you are entitled to do so. DVC members are aloud to pool hop to any of the resorts except for SAB at Y&B clubs and their lesure pools and the UZima pool at AKL.

As a DVC member though you are still entitled though to valet park for free at the DVC resorts by showing your blue DVC member card and are entitled to the resturaunt discounts available -- this is as far as I understand things. Not sure about the LOS passes that we get 10% off on ...anyone know?

HTH's some.

Oops, was worng on teh LOS. I still think you get the dining option no matter where you're staying, though. I thought you just had to show your card.

The restaurant discounts are the only DVC perks you get when you are not staying on points.

The UPH discount and cash DVC discount are technically limited to MEMBERS staying on points. PH is limited to members or guests staying on points. The Discouns like water parks and DQ are limited to members staying at DVC resorts but it doesn't specify that they must be on points. Valet, dining and golf are for members period even if not staying on WDW property at all.

If you make a reservation for 2005 the cost of the points come from the chart in 2005 at the date of the reservation, so your wife is wrong but not really too wrong because with a few exceptions the points are the same every year, there is some shift in points around Easter. The thing is with few exceptions the points never change from one year to another anyway. I am talking about reservations at DVC resorts only.
