hi, We are going to WDW next week as renters of DVC points (I am NOT a DVC member). We have been unable to verify from anyone at WDW that we are in the system. We simply are wanting to make dining reservations and verify our reservation independently from the DVC member we are renting points from and NO ONE at DVC or WDW will give us the time of day to simply tell us if we are in the system or not. Does this make sense? They say we can't discuss to "protect the DVC member..." That's great but what about some simple assurance for the DVC renter? What am I missing here. Please feel free to move to a different forum if this is not the appropriate one.

thanks so much...

One of a number of key things people who rent need to understand from the get-go: it's a private transaction between the person who owns and rents out the points/reservation, and the person renting it...Disney will not get involved in anyway.

DVC's MS will not talk to anyone but the member who owns the points being discussed. The rule applies to DVC members who rent, too. For example, I'm a DVC owner who ran out of points and so rented a reservation from a fellow owner. MS would not discuss that reservation w/me--only the person whose points are used for the reservation can talk to MS about that reservation.

There is a way to check online to see if your reservation is in the system, tho...I can't find the link just now, but am sure someone will come along and direct you (and me!) to it...

As for ADRs, if you're arriving at Disney next week, you don't need your reservation verified to make an ADR...just call Disney Dining and make it...if they ask for your reservation number, tell them you don't have it...or, tell them you're local, or not staying at Disney--they'll still make your reservation for you...

Good luck!

Did you try and pull up your reservation on the Disney site under my reservations?

Dining reservations can be made on the Disney site it has nothing to do with hotel reservations.

Oh and it is not up to disney to assure a renter that is competiton to people renting from CRO

As the PP said, you're not missing anything - that's the way it works. You don't actually have a reservation with Disney, the owner has one. You have an agreement with the owner.

You can also do your dining reservations online (that is so much easier) and you don't need your reservation # at all.

thank you for the thoughful reply. It just seems that the DVC member and renter would both benefit from being able to verify independently. I have scanned .pdf docs the DVC member provided where the tenants had to be listed, etc.
If I were a DVC member I would want a renter to be able to do the same for peace of mind. It wouldn't be dificult for someone to do something awful.
It just feels like renters are treated 2nd class when the request to verify all is legit would be such an easy thing to do.
I will await that link from someone..
thanks again!

I don't have the direct link handy either, but as a PP mentioned - you can just go to the Disney site and find the place where you can look up your reservation # and I think that should work. I don't think you have to have the direct link with the "dvc" in the address any longer.

But renters are DVC CRO competition. Why would Disney want to make it easier for the competition? The owner could cancel the reservation and it still would not have anything to do with Disney. It is a private transaction between the renter and the rentee.

Once again did you go under Disney.com and try to enter your information under my reservations?

Found it: You'll need your reservation number (or, possibly, your travel plan number...Disney's computers have been a bit wonky lately; you might have to try both)--

MyDisneyReservation.com/DVC

For more info, here's the DisBoards thread talking about this: http://www.www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2235240

I just tried that link, and it took me to online check-in...that should work, if you're going next week...but if not, try:

www.mydisneyreservation.com/dvc

Per the post at http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2439691, "enter the reservation number and the other information it ask for (last name, resort and check in date) and see if your reservation comes up.

I just checked that link, and it looks like online check-in, but if you click on the line that says the reservation was made thru DVC, it takes you to the page that lets you check your reservation...it asks for confirmation number, last name of primary guest, your resort and your check-in date...

Good luck!

thanks Denise. I'm trying the "my reservation check" but getting this: We are currently experiencing problems displaying reservations. Apologies for any inconvenience.

I do understand the competition issue, but we're still guests at Disney properties and still buying dining plan, park tix, and everything else.

If it's as simple as pulling it up on the "my reservations" link, why in the world no one on phone support could have told me that is even more baffling.
Hopefully that part of the site is just down for maintenance or something.
As a sidenote, the DVC member has been pretty easy to deal with, so this isn't about the member at all.

Disney site often has problems. If you cannot get it to work later, make sure you are signed out of all other disney sites (including ABC). Clear cookies and try again later.

made some progress! The assigned reservation # is a legit one, but does not match up with the DVC member, our travel party of even the dates of travel. Hence, why we can't even be located in the system. DVC member will call member services to figure out what the deal is. The phone rep actually pulled up the DVC member bookings and indicated there isn't a booking for us or our time, but there are others....so I dunno. Hopefully the member can resolve it with DVC member services. geesh.....thanks for all of your help!

Your contract is between the owner and yourself. As PP Disney has nothing to do with your reservation. Contact the person that you rented from and get things sorted out.

Member Services is paid for by DVC members' dues so they are not supposed to spend time on the phone with anyone other than a DVC member. Before they made that decision some renters would call frequently (some even reported that they called every day) to verify their reservation still existed.

Also, Disney doesn't want to get in the middle of a private transaction. If Disney confirms by phone that a renter has a reservation but then the next day the DVC member cancels it, many would put up quite a fuss at check-in when they were told their reservation had been cancelled by the DVC member. "But I called you guys and you verified my reservation!!!" Disney isn't going to be held responsible for anything that happens to your reservation that isn't their fault.

Fortunately the link that DMKEDM gave you provides a means for renters to verify their reservation. The DVC member can still cancel the reservation at any time but you have the option to continue to use that link to check that it still exists as often as you feel necessary.

As others have said, you booked through a third party/DVC member, so that is who should be working on your behalf to sort out any issues with your reservation. Good luck! I hope everything is OK.

FWIW, my reservation/trip-whatever number was changed to three separate numbers just days before my first reservation started, in mid-September. I found this out by getting a rather "this does not exist" message when I went to look at my reservations... After I stopped myself from fainting, I worked it out and figured out that either the computers or a random human had erased my original number and assigned new ones. (I had 3 separate parts of my reservation, booked at different times, but put under one annoying number b/c that's the way they wanted to do it then)

So maybe that's what is going on with your reservation? I worked it out by logging into dvcmember and seeing the info there. So the member renting to you could do the same thing, and compare it to the number given when they originally made the plans for you.

And Disney will be GLAD to help you with Park tix and "everything else"

Think about this.. why did you rent via a DVC member? Because it was probably less then half of what Disney wanted for that same accomodation. No, they don't want you to do this. You just cost them the most "profitable" part of your stay. (At those rates and with the service they provide the profit margin on Disney hotels is ASTRONOMICAL! ) They don't want to make that easy for you, they want you to think "the risk isn't worth it" and run back to CRO!

Disaster has struck. DVC member just emailed and said DVC informed him all of this is because he changed bank accounts and went 60 days without paying annual days and all of his reservations were cancelled and we no longer have a room. So we are going to Disney on Friday and we have nothing. Hopefully the DVC member returns our money. I'm just in total shock right now. First family trip to Disney. Total shock.

I'm terribly sorry you've had this experience.

May I ask, where did you make contact with this DVC member renter? was it through these boards? or somewhere else?

I'm sorry this has happened but something about this doesn't ring true. I can't imagine DVC would cancel all reservations without first contacting the member to inform them their dues are past due. I hope you get your money back but I would be concerned at this point.

ETA: If I were you I would look up this member's contract(s) on the Orange County Comptroller's website and see if perhaps DVC has a filed a lien against their contract(s) for non-payment of dues. It takes a while for Disney to take that action so it would give you some idea if the problem is just in the past 2 months or has been going on much longer.

Lisa, he said member services said they tried to email him about his acct but he said it must have went to his spam folder.

I think you're being scammed/lied to by the owner, but I guess that doesn't matter much at this point. None of what you've said that they said rings very true to me either.
