Hi, has anyone used both points and cash for a cruise? It looks like we may pay cash for my daughter, she would be 57 points. It is either that or borrow points from next year. I am wondering if anyone has any idea how much would be charged in cash for those 57 points for a cruise. Thanks for any help, MNmomof1

First it all depends how old your daughter is. I would just call member services tomorow. We usually use points for the first person and pay cash for the rest of us for the cruises.

Does that stand for Disney Vacation Club? How much does that cost and how does it work?

We split our upcoming cruise between points for my wife and me, and cash for our 2 kids.

We get a cat.6 pay points for one adult and child and cash for other adult, comes to roughly 1700.00 for the cash part including the 75.00 fee. Many people suggest paying the child part in cash and saving those points but for us it is worth it to use them.

Leslierx,
DVC is a time share program offered through Disney. If you go on the cruise, they have people on there that can tell you about it (and a video that plays on one of their channels that shows more information). It is based on 'points', and you can use those points for the cruise. Just to give you some 'basic' information (that no one told me when I was trying to find out basic information). Currently the points are around $84 a point (though Disney, there are resales that are cheaper, but we bought directly from Disney). You have to buy at least 150 points to start with though Disney (again, I don't know much about resales). You have a 'home' resort, which is where you buy, but you can use your points for any of the DVC resorts as well as some of the other Disney resorts. They also have an exchange program so you can go to other time share facilities by exchanging your Disney points.

Anyway......we are cruising on all points this year, and I had to borrow some. We have a 3 day cruise in September, and now we want to use points to stay in a studio at VWL before the cruise. I will have to borrow some more points for that. Next year, I am going to pay cash for our cruise. But it was nice this year to have it all covered with points.

We may think about mixing points and cash too in the future if we have extra points (next year we won't because I will have borrowed for this year).
