Hi, Everyone!

I have a great idea!~ (Or do I) LOL!

I have been reading about those of us who would like to take extended vacations at our DVC...and those who DO take extended vacations at DVC. I was just wondering if Disney will ever come up with the DVC version of Quartershare?

We all talk of spending several months at Disney when we retire.
Disney has a plan in the works for a DVC at DI, but maybe Eagle Pines would be a logical choice for Quartershare!

What do you think?

I don't believe Disney would be interested with anything concerning this type of program. The books I have read on Disney all clearly state that Disney will do anything and everything to avoid any type of 'residency' on its property (or anything approaching it). This is the main reason EPCOT was dramatically changed from its orignal concept and prototype plans. Even our DVC paperwork which we all sign clearly states that ownership interests don't construe FLA residency as DVC is a vacation program.

Quartersahre could be pushing the limits on the residency qualifacation if someone bought more than 1 or 2 interests. The LAST thing Disney wants is a 'voter(s)' overthrowing Reedy Creek Dvelompment's absolute control over Disney property, and soviernty from the state of FLA.

Just my opinion though.

I don't know if things will change, but I am planning to buy another 1570 points at OKW and spending a month or two in the OKW GV every year. I probably won't start buying them for another ten years...although I may buy one more contract sooner.

I figure that the cost won't really be that bad. Even if I pay $70 per point, for the rest of the points, I will need another $100,000. The dues on 2,000 will be $7,000 per year, so roughly for the cost of a cheap summer home with an expensive tax bill of $7,000, I get to stay in a Grand Villa six or so weeks. Sounds kind of reasonable for the cost of a vacation year. With borrowing and banking, you could get 12 or more weeks some years.....I think holidays may force you to leave....hey, I can go visit the grandkids.

I doubt Disney even wants long term guests on property, they would loose money. Six families use a room one week each will spend a lot more money then one family staying for six weeks. They want fresh money in as soon as possible.

In order to understand what a "quartershare" is, I did a Google search. I found that Marriott Vacation Club International is getting into the quartershare business, with Lake Tahoe as the location for their first "Marriott Grand Residence Club."

See http://www.prweb.com/releases/2001/7/prweb26832.php

I thought the following paragraph was particlularly interesting:
<DL><DD>"The ownership structure for Marriott Grand Residence Club, Lake Tahoe gives owners one week every 28 days, based on a rotation calendar. Additionally, each owner gains a consecutive two-week period (including Christmas and New Year’s periods) once every fourth year. Owners have the option of taking advantage of “space available” privileges during non-ownership stays, the use of resort amenities regardless if the owner is staying at the property and the ability to rent their unit if they choose. The ownership framework and amenities for future properties will vary based on consumer and market demand."</DD></DL>
Nope. I don't see Disney getting into this business.

And, frankly, I don't know how many people would actually want to (or be in a position to) go to the same vacation destination "one week every 28 days."

I bet yhat there are provisions, at in some of them, that allow you to stay one month out of four and/or three months out of twelve.

I can't wait to have six weeks a year at OKW.

There's no way Disney would do this at WDW.

But across the street at Celebration might be a different story. That would be interesting.

Just curious RICHYAMS,

You're already in FLA. Why would you want so much time at OKW? Many of us are up here in the great white north and go to FLA for winter relief when the kids are out of school. Why would someone in FLA want to own a second house in FLA, unless of course its on the ocean...... Just curious

I am almost four hours from WDW!!!!!!!!!!

Also, I am from New York, I have only been down here for less than five years. I will be going back eventually.

NY !!! We didn't know that about you. I suppose you'll head back north when Hillary is gone, and things get back to normal.....or is it normal now....I'm not sure.

Please let me know if you have any inside info about Hillary leaving. As a New Yorker I am ready to move to Fla. now!It is the Yankees that keep me here.

I do think that somewhere down the line I will become a snowbird and have a 3 month or 4 month residence in Fla. and I will enjoy my DVC breaks then. Living on Disney property would be great but then reality sets in.

I was recently in Vero and a couple who were stretching out their points over a 2 month span by visiting friends ont the high point weeknds and by staying a studio. they have created their own Quartershare version.

We own all our points at VB and currently have enough for just about 6 weeks in a 1BDR or could really stretch it out with cash nights on weekends . Still contemplating buying a home in the area or more points. Quartershare would be a great idea:) but doubt it would happen but you never know?
