DVC points on vacations outside of Disney? help!

Is it worth it???? We are looking into purchasing DVC points from a family member. We would have enough for 1-2 weeks per year that we would use on grounds AND around the country.... what are other peoples experiences using points at places other than Disney? Are there family friendly resorts in the "concierge collection"??? Is it worth the investment in DVC if we don't always use the points at Disney?

I think most people (including me) would agree that it isn't a terrific value equation to use points outside of the DVC resorts on a regular basis. It's usually a better value to just buy the points you plan on using for DVC and use them there, and then when you want to go elsewhere rent using a site like myresortnetwork or redweek or tug, or pay cash.

I think of my DVC as a paid vacation room for 2 weeks. I have used it outside of Disney Had great room in San Francisco , Monterey Ca. Also traveled to a Dude ranch in Arizona. All with my points It.s great to use just for Disney but also for visit other places. Disney also has Hilton Head & Vero Beach family resorts
