DVC points at non-DVC resort?

Hi,
I'm interested in staying in a Ft. Wilderness cabin and wonder how cost-effective it would be to rent DVC points for this instead of paying rack rate. Could one of you DVC members kindly look up how many points/night I would need for this reservation in January? Thanks for your help and any other tips you might have.

Using DVC points at non DVC resorts is a very expensive proposition. Not only will it require many more points than the DVC resorts do, you also will have to pay a $95 booking fee..

As most members will agree, this is not an effective use of DVC points. You're better off staying at the DVC resorts.

AS you can see from the points chart that Disney_Villain posted, a January weeknight in a FtW cabin is 30 points per night, and each Friday or Saturday night is 54 points. That assumes you aren't traveling over MLK weekend. If so, you'd pay 41 points for a weeknight and 74 points for the weekend nights. As CarolAnnC posted, you'd also pay an add'l $95 fee for that reservation.

To compare, a 2 bedroom unit at the VWL in January would be 30 points for a weeknight and 60 points for the weekend nights. There is no "surcharge" for MLK weekend and no $95 fee. The 2 bedroom has a washer & dryer in the unit, a fully equiped kitchen, 2 separate bedrooms, two bathrooms, two TVs, a jacuzzi tub in the Master bedroom and the unit sleeps 8.

FWIW, booking non-DVC WDW resorts through CRO for cash is almost always less expensive than renting points for them. This is especially true if you can get any kind of a discount.

Thanks for all for taking the time to give me thoughtful answers. I was just curious if this was an option worth considering, but it's obviously not.
