DVC Points and the Moderates

My apologies. I did not mean trading into a moderate - just a flat out purchase of 100 points at Vero Beach for $6K.

We are really August vacation-ers at Disney. So probably within the first 2 weeks of August? And we would be happy campers with a studio. But yes, either Boardwalk or something at AK.
Lots of people make the mistake thinking that Vero Beach is the cheapest. Look at the dues and the duration of the contract. SSR, followed by BLT and then AKV are the "cheapest" points when considering all factors.

The more DVC expands, the harder it will be to swap out at seven months. So that means it's increasingly important to buy a home resort that you will be happy to reserve at 11 months and then hope that you can swap into something else at seven months. Availability today does not guarantee availability even a few years from now.

Are you always booked into your home resort w/o problems, assuming you reserve at 11 months?

Not necessarily, depending on what you're after. An AKV owner isn't guaranteed Value or Club at 11, BWV Standard can be tough in some seasons, VGF studios certain weeks, etc.

In general, if you book your home at 11 months you will get in there. You may not get the lowest-point unit.

Some room types might give you problems even at the 11 month mark. At AKV Jambo House, there are Club Level rooms that are hard to get even at the 11 month mark. Sometimes the Value Rooms at Jambo House can also be hard to get if you do not book them right at the 11 month mark. And at Christmas people that book longer trips might block your first few days, so you can never book what you want. Both of these examples are room types have very few rooms available for booking to start with, there are 10 two bedroom lockoffs in club level and around 20 values, but some are dedicated studios, 1BRs or 2BRs.

I would say most of the time right at the 11 month mark you will be okay especially at large resorts. BCV, BRV and VGF are all small resorts and it sometimes is even difficult for owners to book what they want at the 11 month mark during DVC's most active booking period of October through early January.

Buy VB to use at VB, not WDW, except once in a while.
