DVC Point Transfer Rules

The only thing I can think of, and its a guess, is that there are indiviuals who have set up LLC's as part of estate planning, who are not these type of owners, and there are more of those than we realize?
If estate planning I would think various trusts would be used not LLC's. But then again there commercial renters who also set up various trusts instead of LLC's too.

I know over the years there are definitely people who have gone the LLC route instead of a trust....and they didn't do it because they wanted to turn their membership into a business.

They other aspect is that maybe it is just easier for DVC to just apply the commerical use policy of "20 reservations in a 12 month rolling period" to all memberships, and go from there?

Its possible. Seems easier for them. I dont really think they are even doing anything about over 20 reservations at this point.

As it have been argued before isn’t the responsibility of each member to understand the product that they have bought into? And then act accordingly?

Just as well as its mine, yours and everyone else’s responsibility.

Yes, which is why I personally take the position that I am responsible for my own actions and not what someone else does with their membership.

If I have questions or want clarification, I go directly to DVC and push it to the levels that I need to feel confident in the information.

So, if anyone did choose to go an LLC route, then they, based on the contract language: limited their rights as to who can be guests on reservations booked on their memberships.

Hi! Two questions:

Due to a sick kid, we now have 50 points in holding on a Sept use year. All my stays before Sept are using my June use year membership. Is this a situation where it would make sense to call and transfer the 50 points in holding to the June use year, then when I'm 60 days out I can switch the upcoming stays to use those points? Am I missing anything here? The transferred points will still last till the end of August right?

Second question: Why wouldn't you transfer all your points from one membership to another for booking simplicity if you have two use years? Is there any downside?
Did anyone answer this question?

I have long contended that Disney has clear data that shows non-owners staying in a DVC room spend more on average that owners do staying in that same room. Thus they have no incentive to crack down hard on renters. They profit from those rentals.

Disney has different profit motivations than other timeshare companies.

We don’t transfer because we find it easier to just use each UY as its own membership.

It’s not as easy to keep track of points once they are transferred, though I hear they have made changes and you can see on the dashboard now in some way.

I feel like we spend more on merch and dining because we know we aren’t going to have a massive hotel bill to contend with at the end of the trip.

Same. Even more so when you’re paying off your room charges with the stash of DGCs you have piled up 🙂.

I would think the DVC renters are a bit more budget conscious having gone the route of renting DVC points, but I suppose there are also some long-time DVC owners who have settled into more resort only stays with doing most of their cooking and eating in the room. It would be interesting to see whether there is a significant difference in the average spending by a DVC owner vs. a renter.
