Hi Everybody,

Well, DH has been hard at work updating his DVC Point Manager Program! Version 2.1 has arrived! Some new features include: point tables for the DVC resort so you can plan your vacations, a transaction number box for banking and borring area, and a couple of bug fixes. If you would like to download this please go to http://hometown.aol.com/dmfredrick/Download.html . As always, he loves to have feedback. Please let us know how you like it. Happy Tracking!!

Good Job. Works well. Is there somewhere I can enter my Banking Transaction Number as I have read is very important to save this number? Thanks Again. :)

I went to this earlier in the week because of a post here and noticed the "update" announcement. I can't wait to get to use it. Thanks.

Another method to add to my DVC obsession. ;)

Tony-
Yes there is! If you have the newest 2.1 version (look at the bottom of the window and it will tell you which version you have) there is a new box where you enter the Transaction Number that Disney gives you for Banking and Borrowing! It will show the info in the big Transaction box for you after that! Good Luck!

Suzy and DH, Thanks a whole bunch for helping me get your program up and running. After numerous IM and email messages I have the program working and I can't wait to use it to start keeping track of my next trip home!! Thanks again for all of your help. I really do need to take a course to learn how to use this computer like a pro.
Karen :D

I just downloaded the program this weekend and haven't had a chance to use it yet, but I can't wait -- it looks great!

We took our first DVC trip last year, so I'm just now starting to track our points. One thing that I have decided I want to track is the cash rack-rate for whatever I get. That way, as the years go by, I can look back and see how much I would have spent if I had used cash.

I don't notice anything like that in the program -- if it's there please let me know. If it's not then I guess this is a suggestion for something to add.

In addition, I'm going to keep track of my initial purchase costs and each years dues. With those compared to the cash rack-rates I'll be able to get a vague idea of when I "break even".

:-) Joel

**Note**
Okay, to all you financial analysts out there... before you start telling me how that is not an accurate comparison let me say: I absoultely KNOW and understand that it is a VERY ROUGH and SIMPLISTIC comparison -- since I would probably never pay full rack rates, I could have invested the initial purchase money, etc., etc... blah, blah, blah.

That is OKAY. It's good enough for me.

It's exactly what I want and all I'm interested in... a REAL SIMPLE comparision that is easy to keep track of and that just gives me a ROUGH idea of when I "break even".

If you want to track more and do more involved financial analysis then "more power to you". But this simple comparison is fine for me.

Thank you for your concern. :)

:-) Joel

Hi -- I don't mean to sound dumb but do you have to pay to download the "zip" files? I guess I need to have it to open up your spreadsheet.

Thanks.

Right now the problem I have is it is too big for my 15 inch monitor.

I love the old program and can hardly wait to use the new one....I sure hope I can figure out how to unzip the files.

the new version? I was successful at getting the unzip to work and have the new version up and running. Is there an easy way to get my old data into the new version? Maybe I did something wrong?

He has the individual files up on the page that you can download individually, if you don't know how to UNZIP. Further, if you put it in the same directory as your old program, your information should already load in to the new program.

Downloaded ok, and is picking up my previously entered data. But on the point calculator, the drop down boxes are empty (no data to select from for resort, room type, etc). Any thoughts?

you should have a box labled #1 in the upper left corner of the calculator. click on the drop down arrow, and slect a resort. the bottom half of the calculator will automatically fill in. Try that and let us know if that doesn't work.

DVCDAVE:

No, the drop down boxes are empty. There is nothing to select from. The resort one is totally blank. The other two only have one option - 'show all types'. I do have the point tables in the same directory as the dvc manager, but it must not be finding them.

I had the same problem. You need to make sure the files unzip to the exact names that are listed on the page you downloaded the program from. For example, you should have files named Boardwalk2001.Points, Wilderness2001.Points, etc. Try renaming these .Points files and see if that works.

DVC_JOHN, Sorry for the delay. Had to drive home from work, dinner, put the keds to bed etc. I have a feeling you copied the program to your desktop right ? if you do that you actually copied the program to another directory, unwittingly. Delete the program from you desktop, by dragging and dropping it in to the recycle bin. NOW, you need to create a shortcut on your desktop. Do this by doing a right click on the desktop, then click on 'new', then click on 'shortcut', then click on 'browse', and follow the path to where you have the program. Finally click on 'open' and you should be all set.

What went wrong when you 'copied' the program to the desktop, under windows 98 and ME, is that windows actually copies the executable program file to the 'desktop' directory. Guess what ? there are NO resort or point files in the 'desktop' directory. Those files are left behind in the directory that you set the program up in.

Hope this Helps, and good luck

I think Dave F. did a terrific job making this program for us. Thanks !! SUZY make sure you tell him !

Thanks DVCDave for helping out the folks on the board today! I don't get a chance to read the boards until I get home (and my DW lets me use the computer)!
Sounds like you had a very fulfilling day. I'll make sure to cut you in for a piece of the "profits"! ;)

SUZY, If you and your husband are kind enough to spend your time making the program, and generous enough to share it, the least I could do is respond if I help in a problem I recognize.

Thanks wolfeaew and DVCDAVE!

Actually, wolfeaew nailed it. (And it was probably my fault. I didn't have a copy of winzip handy, so I used pkunzip. It worked fine, but shortened the filename.extension to the old dos limits of 8 and 3. Renaming the files worked great!)

And I second DVCDAVE's kudos to Dave F and Suzy for making this terrific program available to your fellow DVC'ers. Thanks!!
