DVC Point Charts for 2011 - Post chart release discussion begins on Pg 14

We stay twice a year for 12 nights each. One visit at Christmas and the other during Star Wars Weekends. OKW is our home resort. In both cases our required points jumped up by 10 and 6 respectively under the 2010 allocation. Under the 2011 allocation the required points for the same time period dropped by 10 and 6 respectively.

I am very disappointed in the point reallocation (again). Makes me consider selling my points since it ruined my reason for buying in. I could vacation cheaper buy having two value rooms now that the kids are older and can be in a separate room from us (adjoining but separate) since we don't cook in the room anyways and be able to take advantage of all the deals they send out.

I've almost had my fill of Disney and there are so many other places I want to go but don't have the money since we are paying off DVC. I am thinking of renting out my next two years points and using the money to go on a different vacation.

When I signed up and bought into DVC the points had been the same for a long time. I was assured that the points over a time would not change. The points to stay for a week in my 2 bedroom would always be the same even though the nightly points may move around some. My 270 points would always get me a week. Now we all know that this is not true. It has changed and will keep changing. I like traveling value season and it seems that they have not had any problem filling the busier seasons as well so why lower those points and make value season guests pay more ?

I hate that they changed points allocation again. pretty soon it will cost me 2 yrs worth of points to stay what one week would have cost me when I bought.

Since you have already paid for DVC, why not use your exchange options for a couple of years?

I remember when you bought. You weren't the best candidate for DVC even then. It doesn't surprise me that you aren't happy.

Yep if you are just as happy in a value room DVC might not be for you.

Sorry you did not understand the point system.

Yea, most of us Sun to Thurs types got the short end on this re-allocation. I suppose the bright side is that it should help with availabiltiy some.

I'm sorry it messed with your plans.

I was shocked to notice that for the vacation we have planned, if we were taking it next year, we would be saving a nice amount of points.

Just all depends on when and where and what sort of room, as to whether it enhances or hurts the vacation.

I was extremely disappointed with the 2009 reallocation. The 2010 reallocation seems to have corrected some of the issues I had in 2009. Let's see what next year brings. I see that I will have to plan carefully and manipulate when I go and what accommodations I choose in order to get the most bang out of my points. There are some challenges but they are not insurmountable.

The reallocation was done for the long term benefit of all members. So if the long term benefit of DVC as a whole ruined your reasoning for buying in, I can only assume that your reasoning was not a good one. A link was already posted about this reallocation on this thread so I won't rehash what that link will tell you but basically, there was a huge imbalance in demand. Timeshares are meant to run at full capacity and DVC's imbalance between weekend and weekdays were costing us all because the entire program was not running efficiently.

"I've almost had my fill of Disney "

?????

They are doing what they are suppose to do. In fact, they should have done this years ago. Is your fill that they are trying to run an operation that we all pay for as efficiently as possible?

"I was assured that the points over a time would not change"

Correct, if you mean number of points. They will never increase. They can only be redistributed.

"The points to stay for a week in my 2 bedroom would always be the same even though the nightly points may move around some."

Nope. You may want to read the contract your purchased.

I'm just as happy in a value as in a DVC room and I feel DVC is for me :confused3. As long as I'm in WDW I'm happy :goodvibes

I admit we were Sunday thru Thursday types also-once we bought DVC (in 2002). However, I can still remember before that our vacations always included the weekends, so I try to look at this as not that we're getting the short end, but that this reallocation allows us to take the kind of vacations, day-wise, that we used to pre-DVC.

And the new point allocation will work better for us in 2011 when long weekend trips (like for Food and Wine) will cost less.

Our other type trips will cost a little more, but not enough for me to have to redo the plans.

That is exactly how I look at it now. No more trying to get good airfare on a Sunday and coming back on a Thursday. Or flying in on a Saturday booking at a value and then moving.
I can now go on vacation from a Saturday to a Saturday and stay put if I want to or do a split reservation but I can go back to the "old way" of taking my vacations.

And THAT is exactly what the reallocation SHOULD do. :thumbsup2
