I saw in a recent member's newsletter that we can use "Pal Mickey" for one day free through September 30th.

We will be at the parks in September and I would like to take advantage of this perk. Has anyone else done it?

Do you have to 'reserver' Pal Mickey? Do you contact the front desk ahead of time, or just go the morning you want it?

What did you think of it? Was it a fun thing to have with you, or just something else to carry around (although my DDs will probably carry him most of the time).

Thanks,
DJ

From now until September 30, you will receive a voucher for the Pal Mickey rental (or you can apply the $8 value to a purchase) when you check in at your DVC resort.

The voucher can be redeemed at any Theme Park or in the resort store where they also carry Pal Mickey. You will have to leave a $50 refundable deposit with the rental. The "perk" is good for a one day trial.

Enjoy!

We just returned and indeed did receive our voucher at check in. He was so cute, however, that we bought him instead of doing the rental. At the BWV they are located in the Character Carnival store on the Boardwalk. By the end of our stay they were beginning to show up at the parks, as well. He is not somebody you want to take on every trip to the parks, but we had a great time listening to all he had to say. It really was pretty amazing.

We were required to show our DVC membership card at check-in in order to get the voucher. It isonly for members, not guests or renters. Your confirmation letter is not proof of membership.

We also returned on Tuesday from a split week at BWV and OKW. We used our voucher from BWV to 'test drive' Pal Mickey and found him to be a lot of fun. Later in the week at OKW we used the voucher to purchase him for $41.50 instead of $50. He is not really a finished product as we were told about future add-ons such as outfits for each of the parks. They are also working on the volume of his voice as they are trying to balance you being able to hear him without disturbing other guests around you. He already is programmed not to operate inside the shows. It's pretty neat when you approach Kali River Rapids and he tells you he doesn't like to get wet and if we went on the ride to make sure we kept him nice and dry! Overall, we think it is a good value which we wll enjoy on future trips as well.

Did you get the impression yours will be "upgradable" or you will end up buying a new one to access some features?

I would hate to buy him in July and get roped into another one in our August or Feb trip.

Thanks
Sandy

Does that mean each time you go to the parks, he will tell you things? I guess I don't understand how he works. If I bought him, would he work the next time we went to the park a year later?
Thanks,
DJ

Yes, that was my understanding when I called and asked questions about him.

Sorry, guess I wasn't clear in my question. I know he is suppose to be a one time investment to use over and over. I am just wondering if the upgrades will be in the system that sends the data to Mickey or in Mickey himself (requiring a new purchase).

Thanks again
Sandy

I didn't know the voucher would get $8 knocked off the price of PM if purchased! I thought it was only for rental.

Darn! We purchased PM during our trip a couple of weeks ago, and I wish I had known.

Yes, he will work each time you return (only needs 3 AA alkaline batteries replaced). The upgrades they are making are at the parks so each time they make a change Pal Mickey will "pick up" these changes. So, if they change his volume at the Magic Kingdom, your Pal Mickey will operate that way...if they add new points in the Park for him to speak, your old Pal Mickey will pick these up. There are also games to play if you squeeze both hands at the same time, and of course any time you squeeze him he tells jokes...although many would say some are corny, somehow when Mickey tells them they're cute.Brochure says he has almost 100 minutes of audio and over 700 different fun things to say. Also, tells you where other Disney characters are so you can meet the whole gang. And reminds you about parade and showtimes. Again, I think it's a good value.

Just a quick question. Am I understanding this correctly? You can use the voucher to "test drive" Pal Mickey for a day AND then use it again and get $8 off the $50 price is you choose to buy him later? This seems like a good deal. Thanks for any info.

I think this could be a problem with having 2 kids, they would BOTH want a Pal Mickey. Too bad they don't have a Pal Minnie who said different things at different times. But 2 Pal Mickeys would be annoying. Maybe I will just have to get it and say that it belongs to ME :p so they can't fight over it.

Oh Boy! Now I want one of these things! We will defiantly give it a 'test' run for free with our DVC Perk certificate. He sounds cute!

I wish this offer was thru the end of the year as we're not going until Nov 30!

I really want to try him and probably buy him and this would have been a great added bonus!:(

Just to clear up a point or two. Mickey does operate in some rides and shows. We were in the Haunted Mansion and when we got to the room with the talking crystal ball, he started to vibrate. He said that he was scared by all of the ghosts around him and to hold him close or something like that. As for him not working on purpose, he only shut down during the backlot tour in MGM. As soon as I stepped off the tram, he sprung back to life and said something about being on the tour and how good it was to survive Catastrophe Canyon.

I guess we will have to find out on our own how much or how far they will go with PM in the months and hopefully years to come. That's what will make it so much fun and yet another reason to keep visiting.

In july i will use my voucher to buy the pal mickey.

We just got back from BWV, met a elderly Mom and Daughter there. The mother had a Pal Mickey, she said they really couldn't hear him at MK. Said it was too noisy there. I didn't use our voucher. I will try it in September and if we like it will use our other voucher to buy him. I can see it would be hard balancing the volume. Maybe an earphone would work.

Regards, Rich

I don't think the voucher is good for rental and purchase. I thought the voucher was for rental only. It will be in your welcome home folder when you check into your villa.

I do know you can turn in your coupon BEFORE using your free day to take $8.50 off the normal $50.00 price since we did this at OKW on Tuesday last week. I'm not sure you can do this AFTER you've used it for a day. The cast members at OKW were promoting Pal Mickey with this added value much more than those at BWV. It almost seemed a nuisance for the cast members at BWV Character Carnival.

Thanks for the replies. I've almost convinced myself that I really need Pal Mickey!! My kids and hubby will just go along with me because thank goodness they know me so well, after all I have a Mickey telephone, lamp, tons of Disney stuff in my house, so Pal Mickey is the next logical item!! LOL!! He sounds so darn cute!!!!
