DVC Perk ??? -- Pal Mickey

We definatley want to check out our little Pal:D Does he do anything once we take him home (besides being cute;) )?

Does anyone have a picture of Pal Mickey? I'm really curious to know how big he is...

I do not have a picture but he is about 10" tall and looks just like a plush Mickey you would find in one of the stores. He comes with a clip that hooks on to his back and can attach to your belt or fanny pack. He has a zipper in the back also that leads to the battery compartment and on/off switch. As far as what he does outside the parks, he has 3 games and tells really corny jokes.

here's a pic...

I hope this works!

Pal Mickey will tell you one of his jokes anytime you press one of the switches in his hands or the switch in his tummy. He also plays 3 games. One game tests your knowledge of Disney Characters, another tests your knowledge of attractions and shows in the WDW theme parks and the last game is called "Mickey Says". You play it like "Simon Says"

We rented it 2 weeks ago and found it to be more of a burden. Maybe it's because we have a toddler and the PAL MICKEY was just one more thing to lug around. In addition, it was difficult to hear the sound unless it was held very close to the ears. It's only $50 so might be worth it when our DS is older. But for now, it wasn't for us.

Since it's free to try it with the coupon, anyone going down this summer should try it to judge for themselves.

I just told DGD8 about Pal Mickey, she can't wait to get him. We're staying at the Poly for two nights prior to checking in BWV, I guess we'll have to do without him for the first couple days of our stay...in order to get the discount that is. He really sounds like fun, I can't wait to get a hold of him!

If you are going after 9/30, it's only $8 to rent him. Anyone can rent him....not just DVC members. Then if you decide to buy him, they apply the $8 towards the purchase price. You can also read about this on wdwig.com.
Personally I don't need anything else to carry while in the parks. I guess if I had a child in a stroller it would go in there.
There was also a write up in the Disney Mag I believe.

We stayed at the Contemp on cash ressies 23-26 May. Before we left, I called member services and asked about the coupon. MS said all the resorts have the coupons and to ask for it upon check-in. It was no problem to get the coupon (I just had to show my DVC membership card).

Redeeming the coupon towards the purchase price was a little trickier, but we had a plan :). Our plan was to try to get PM at the Contemp using the coupon and if that didn't work, we would go over to WL where we figured they had more experience with the coupons.... I tried to redeem the coupon at the Contemp and the CM there said it was only good towards the rental. So, I asked what happens when someone rents PM for the day and then comes back and decides to buy him, are they charged an additional $50.00? The CM seemed to be little confused at that point (BTW, I'm not sure what the answer is). She then said she would have to ask her manager (who didn't come in for 3 hours).
So, we went over to WL. This turned out to be a good plan. While the CM there had to also ask her manager, she came back and said, "Yes!" So, we were able to apply the coupon towards the purchase price.

For those of you who have used Pal Mickey. We plan on renting him for 1 day as a test. Which park did you find him the most useful in ( Have the cutest quotes and display the most useful info)?

To be honest, we thought our first day in AK was best, but that's mostly because we thought he was not quite "on top of his game" when we were at the MK. He didn't vibrate when we went through the turnstiles, and despite stopping at City Hall to check him out, he worked intermittently, but didn't talk as much as we thought he would. Being new, we didn't know what to expect. The day at AK he vibrated right at the turnstiles, and then was a real joy throughout the park. He actually had a lot of information that was quite interesting and new at AK.

We are staying at an offsite timeshare with some friends for a few days before checking into Beach Club Villas. Can we get the discount coupon before we checkin? Our friends want to visit DW while we are staying offsite.

It is in your check-in folder at the DVC resort, so I don't think so.

The way they have set this up is that if anyone who rents a Pal Mickey decides during the day they have him that they just can't part with him, they can just not return him and the rental deposit will be considered a purchase ($42 would be considered the purchase price since you've already spent $8 on him; if you just buy him outright he costs $50).

I think the deal is that if you use the voucher to rent Mickey it will take the place of the $8 rental fee, and if you decide to keep him you will end up being charged the extra $42.

We will be staying at 3 different resorts during our visit in Sept. will we get a voucher for each different resort?

I think the deal is that if you use the voucher to rent Mickey it will take the place of the $8 rental fee, and if you decide to keep him you will end up being charged the extra $42.

Here's the actual process:
1. When you rent Pal Mickey, you will have a $50 deposit charged to a credit card or you can pay in cash.
2. You don't pay any rental fee until you return the toy and they compute how many days you have had Pal Mickey. It is at this time, when you will need the DVC coupon to get credit for 1 rental day.
3. If you return him by noon the following day, the rental fee would be $8. If you return him by noon on the 2nd day, the fee is $16 and so on for up to 4 rental days or a maximum rental fee of $32. The DVC coupon will reduce the total number of days by 1, thus saving you $8.
4. If you have not returned the toy by noon on the 7th day, the assumption is you have fell in love with it and want to keep it. This is a great plan, because you don't need to return to any merchandise shop to process the transaction, Disney just keeps your $50 deposit which exactly equals the retail price including tax.
5. If you rent him for a couple of days and decide you really want a new one in a box, this can be done too. Simply return the rental Pal Mickey and pick out a new one in a box at the same location. Your rental deposit will be refunded or credited and a new retail transaction will be processed for $50. The most you can pay for a Pal Mickey is $50.

I had the impression that it is a perkof being a member of DVC. I was able to get a coupon by asking at check-in at the Contemp. Maybe you could ask member services to see if it is possible to get the coupon prior to check in at the Beach Club. (When we got our coupon, we had to show our membership card and they recorded the membership number on a form. I think there is only one coupon per membership).
Good luck!

Our experience was that the coupon was in our check-in materials at both OKW and BCV (although we bought at OKW so didn't need the second voucher.) We were not asked to show our member card or anything other than the voucher when we got Pal Mickey (well, they did something with my credit card, of course, but there was never a true $50 charge on it.) When we returned that night, I went to the store at OKW and told them that I wanted to purchase it, then gave them the voucher. They then ran an actual charge of $41.50.

BTW, my sister, who is not a DVC member but I made reservation in her name at BCV also had the voucher in her check-in packet.
