DVC Owners ? Does Disney Give Back Villas to DVC if Unreserved?

Not sure if my thread title makes sense or not but I have rented points for about 8 visits to WDW and we are going Christmas week looking for 30th thru Jan 2 for the first time and the owners are saying there's nothing but Disney has Villas available galore for reservations.

My question, does Disney ever turn these unreserved villas over as the date gets closer or should I stop asking owners to check availability?

I have a back up off sit res. but was hoping to nab a studio.

For the most part, no.

Very occasionally a member will report that while looking for one or two odd nights, the DVC Cast Member "worked a little magic" and found a room. Assumption is that a room was pulled back from the cash inventory. (That assumption may or may not even be accurate.)

Even if rooms are occasionally pulled back, it's not an established procedure and not all CMs know how--or are permitted--do to this.

The villas in Disney's inventory are likely from exchanges made by members to take cruises, etc. Those "points" have been used already, so now they are Disney's to "sell" through CRO and no longer belong to DVC.

The time period you are seeking is a very high DVC demand time and has the highest DVC demand night of the year, New Year's Eve. Thus, your chances of getting that time is low. DVD, which keeps a small percentage of the room time and gets time to rent when members trade out to other resorts, does not return to members use time it has to reserve. In fact, it works the other way around. If anything is still unreserved by members at 60 days out, it can be reserved for cash by anyone through Disney central reservations. Nevertheless, you should check availability often because sometimes what you want unexpectedly just opens up due to cancellations.

Completely just curious here.... If you have rented points 8 times (and I am totally estimating here), at 12/pt for maybe 150 points per visit, you have paid over 14K on renting. Again, completely curious... But you could have bought into DVC yourself for that price. I totally understand renting here and there... But if you are doing it so often that you could've bought into DVC on your own... I guess it just begs the question "why?"

That makes sense and I can see that happening.

Cancellations. Ok, so I ask a renter to check more closer to Christmas to see if anyone has cancelled.

I know I should have started trying to rent months ago but this was an unplanned trip up until a month ago. My job is chocolate related and Christmas Vacations are a no go with the boss. I never thought to drive down Christmas Day until a month ago. We'd like to see the decorations and stuff. I kept reading about Park Closures and if you are on-site you would be let in over off site etc. That got me thinking about renting DVC.

We are usually April Patriot's Day Week Vacationers, so this is totally different for us.

You have a valid question there....I guess it's because each WDW trip was supposed to be the 'last one.' Lol. My oldest is 18 youngest is 15. How many more WDW trips do they have in them?

Maybe DVC will be my 'retirement' home since I already live in an area known for retirees.

There are already waitlists where members have waitlisted stays during that time. Members "renting" their points don't usually waitlist a non-member's stay. If they have points to rent, they want to rent them and not hope for something that might never happen.

Nor are too many too excited to check for reservations which aren't likely to exist without any compensation.

You are asking for a lot from a member - unless you are renting points from a very good friend. I think drusba's advice was owner targeted.
