DVC owner statistics - Where do DVC owners come from?

Hello all.

I´m a soon to be DVC owner from South America, Peru to be precise. I was wondering where do DVC owners come from. I understand most owners are from the US but what percentage of owners are from outside the US?

I believe there is a big chunk of owners from The UK or Canada, but is there any actual information on the percentage of owners from certain countries/regions? Understanding were owners live would kind of help me understand the difference in seasons within DVC resorts vs actual WDW attendance seasons.

If there is any actual information, do let me know. If not any guesses would also be welcome.

Expect 95-99% of points to be owned in the US.

Someone might have pulled stats though.

The US is extremely diverse when it would come to travel. Possibly the only thing somewhat the same is school but even that is not going to be exact as different areas of the US are all slightly different.

I would add one of the busiest times time year in DVC is the fall which is during school.

I really think South America is gonna be a very lower percentage, probably less than 0.1%. I think there a thread / poll about where owners live, but I can't seem to find it right now, but I recall pretty much all of the owners live in US.

Out of very small percentage, probably < 5% of foreign owners, the bulk live in Canada, UK (and a few other European countries), and Australia, with Japan thrown in there mostly as Aulani owners.

As far as understanding the DVC booking seasons and patterns, your best bet would be to look into Pete's availability prediction thread here.... Predicted DVC booking patterns - Studios, 1-BD & 2-BD charts (September 2019 2-BD added!) | The DIS Disney Discussion Forums - DISboards.com

It give you a pretty good idea outside of COVID-19 what most years look like for booking DVC resorts.

According to this poll, about 11% are foreign owners, but I think it's skewed towards the high end, since a lot of US owners aren't on this board, and I think foreign owners are probably more apt to research DVC since they live so far away, it's hard to make it "worth it" to travel to USA often.

Yes, South America will be a low percentage, but given that there are so many owners there's probably more than you might think in actual numbers. I've seen Brazilians, Argentinians, and a few Colombians on these forums. And now a Peruvian! Welcome home!

Thanks Great3 for all your comments. I did base my research on the Prediced DVC booking patterns forum in order to decide which home resort and number of points to get (still waiting for closing documents), however most of the information is based on 2017-18. Considering how the point charts have skewed so much from summer to fall over the past few years, Pete's research seems to me less relevant now, as well as shows how spot on he was back then right?

And thanks for the Where is everyone from forum, I have already cast my vote. Definitively not scientific as you stated. The only thing I can take from it, taking into consideration your comments, and the time it took me to research DVC in the first place, is that I do believe foreign owners might be a tad more knowledgeable.

I´m sure there must be a few Brazilian DVC owners, Argentinian and Colombian, sure. Most likely from Chile too. Peruvians? I have never ran into one. I may be the first one (when I receive my closing documents).

I’m from Argentina and DVC owner since 2016. we were going 10 years to Disney when decided to buy DVC. It was a great idea. Since that, we went 3 times per year. Until 2020. And a different and relaxing experience

Do you travel 3 times a year from Argentina or do you live in the US? Seems like a lot of travel to do from Argentina.

I just bought a small contract since I would expect to go every other year with my young family and want to take advantage of the fact my sister lives in the US. Definitively not gonna try going once a year or more.

I live in Argentina. Generally I travelled in September, January, I started with small contract. And buy more later

Yes, you are definitely right, mainly because of the points chart reallocation for 2021 and now also for 2022, that will dramatically alter the booking landscape of when people will choose to go. If the points chart remain the same, I think Pete's chart will largely still hold true, but DVC is making changes left and right, right now. They tried for 2020, and reverted, put push ahead of changes still for 2021 and 2022, but you already know what, and we deduced the same thing.

You figure how could they change the point distribution for 2022 considering this year has been such an anomaly and how it is imposible to draw conclusions from it. Well, I guess they did not consider this year at all and still followed what their research told them beforehand.

Most likely they wanted to give the 2022 chart back in 2021 but did not over fear of mayor criticism. The question is: Are they done? Will we see further changes to the 2023 charts continuing with this trend? Unfortunately we need Pete or someone else to rerun their research with fresh data but on current conditions it is impossible. Until that is done, the predicted booking patterns forum seems more and more like an old tool with little use by now.

They are not done and have a future state in mind. They have a cap how much they can change in a specific year so they have it planned out.

My guess is the 2024 charts are the actual goal maybe even 2025.
