DVC on three coasts?!

I could only see them building on the site of the long proposed water park near DL (which was that very expensive strawberry field on Harbor Blvd, near the convention centre). This is not next to DL, but the only area significantly large enough which would allow for a building which is somewhat offset from traffic, etc.

Remember, even the Grand Californian was built on premium space and doesn't have the extensive grounds of a Wildnerness Lodge, etc

I would love to see a California DVC at a lower point structure than the current DL/GC structure, but I think that unless Disney owns a good chunk of land somewhere else around DL, or has no more plans for a water park and/or third park, it would be tough to squeeze it in.

I was thinking about the old campground next to the DL Hotel, but I can't recall if something else is there now, like the new parking structure. I also recall being told that Disney has been buying up land over the past years in Anaheim (such as the former Grand Hotel lot)
There are some huge parking lots around the Paradise Pier Hotel, as well as the DD parking lot. There were plans to originally have the Magic Kingdom hotel where the DD parking lot currently is. Any of these lots could be used by adding additional parking structures. Space is tight, but Disney has plenty of experience building in tight areas. Disneyland has a whole lot of attractions packed into a much smaller area than WDW's MK has. We can also go underground, unlike Florida. DD has a whole undergound area for valet parking, etc.

I suppose though that my concern is that whatever they build ultimately still lacks the space for extensive grounds. While I do like the interior of the GC, the grounds simply can't compare to a resort which has a larger footprint. And I do give Disney credit for making do (and very well!) with the space they had for the resort.

Don't get me wrong, I'll still stay at a DL DVC if it's a point structure comparable to WDW DVC (and not the current DL structure).

I am just being realistic about what type of structure can be built.

Frankly, I'd love to see them move all parking on the PP/DL site underground, and add a DVC property, and landscape like crazy........

On the other side of that coin, Dave, WDW is no Disneyland! There are a whole lot of DL fans that don't have any interest in WDW. Of course, there are even more fans who love both locations separately--like my family!

I think there is an enormous market for DVC in California--if it's close enough to the parks. With the amazing off-site deals sitting closer to the park entrances than the Disney hotels themselves, it might not attract the casual vacationer. But I'm prepping DH for an add-on when they announce the DVC out there. I think current DVCers will flock to an Anaheim property and many DL lovers will become DVC converts, too.

A DVC resort in Hawaii might actually convince DH to go there. I will keep my fingers crossed on that front.

Just my two cents.

Well put. We will be moving to Texas next fall so being closer to DL might make it more of an appeal for us. We currently live in upstate NY so that flight doesn't seem worth it when we now get non-stop service into Orlando. Who knows maybe I'll be a DL fan as well. Thanks for the post.

I might have to add on if it was a DL DVC or Hawaii. As a west coaster that would make my day!

In July the DVC rep at the DLH told me that Hawaii was a serious consideration so the word has been out there for awhile now but then so has speculation about a DVC at the comtemporary.

The lack of land around DL is not that much of an issue anymore, since by the ruiling of the KELO case, They could force everyone out around them and create a WDW size land if they had enough money and tax revenue.

remember disney ran a test of Tours in Hawaii. Disney sure has Intrest in the Hawaii market. An I think Calf. Needs DVC too.

DVC in Hawaii? How are we going to afford to fly there? I think that may be another thing that keeps Disney from doing anything there. Air tickets from the east coast run at least $650 - 700 per person. :earseek:

It's not about the east coast. It's about the west coast and opening up a whole new, and lucrative market. Disney likely assumes that a lot of west coast people that have been on the fence, will take the DVC plunge if Hawaii opens up. Plus, if the DCL does come to the West Coast permanently, they can have the cruise stop at a Disney resort in Hawaii.

I think a DVC in Hawaii would do quite well.

There are so many families we know that either just returned from Hawaii or have a trip planned soon.

I think it would draw people from both coasts. All of us on the East Coast could board a plane and pick up the West coasters on our layover.

How about DVC airlines? :earboy2:

Building in Hawaii may also draw a lot of interest from Japan. I'm sure they are considering that aspect of the project.
