Just bought 225 pts at SSR. I understand the 11 month and 7 month part. My question is this, can you make a reservation at your home resort at the 11 month time, and then if you wanted to stay at another resort instead, check and see if any space was available at the 7th month time, and have your original reservation transferred to that resort? TIA

yes, it's a good idea to make a reservation at your home resort at 11 months (certain times of year it is essential.) then at 7 months, if there is availability at another resort that you prefer, you can cancel your original reservation and book the new resort for your original dates.

(in rare cases, the new room is booked up by someone else between canceling the old reservation and trying to book the new resort...so it's ideal if you have enough pts to make the new reservation first, before canceling...but it's not a common situation from what i understand.)

if there's no availability, you can still request to waitlist for a reservation at the new resort.

just don't think in terms of a "transfer," though. you do have to cancel and rebook.

THANKS

A followup question: Is the 11 month & 7 month period for making reservations caculated from the beginning date or the ending date of a reserveration? Again thanks for your responses.:cool1:

Calculated from check out, that's why some people make their ressies day by day. :goodvibes

If you waitlisted for that new reservation will they let you do that if you've used all your points for your safety reservation you made at 11 months?

Yes. The "safety" reservation would have to be canceled when the waitlisted reservation comes through so that you have the points available to actually make the waitlisted reservation.

You need to explain what you want to do to the CM who puts you on the waitlist. He/She will make notes on the waitlist explaining - this is a common request and should not be a problem to do. The hard part is probably waiting for the waitlist to come through! :)
