Hi --

We recently joined DVC and are proud to say we are new owners at Saratoga Springs !

Now a question about points...

How do you do comparisons among resorts when it comes to points per nightly stay? That is, how can I figure out based on the points how much it would cost me in real dollars. This way I could decide that if the points for that type of resort (ie., Concierge Collection) is worth it. There must be some type of calculation, I just don't know it.

Hopefully I explained this well enough.

Thanks in advance !

Over on the rent trade board the going rate to rent points is $10.00 per point. I have rented my points for this in the past and have rented extra points to use myself at that rate. Some will tell you that $10.00 is too much, some will say too little but it is the going rate and the number that I use to compare prices.

We take the actual cost of one point, divide by the number of years you'll own that point (say $75 for one point, divided by 50), and then add the amount that I pay for dues for that year (say, $3.75) for a total cost for that point for that year ($5.25). Then if you know that a concierge hotel will cost say, 30 points a night, that it will cost me $157.25 to use my points there. Then I call the hotel to be sure that I can't get a better or comparable rate for the night in question, and hopefully save my points for a Disney trip!:jester:

This is the best approach to this I have ever heard!

Someone explained to me it was something like that. Now I'll just have to plug in my numbers and I'll see how the numbers work out.

Thanks !
