DVC newbie needs help in making reservations

I'm a new (about two weeks) member of the DVC with the home resort of SSR. I still haven't received my PIN so I can't log on to the web site yet. I am thinking of making a quick visit to WDW from Jan. 29 to Feb. 3.

I am planning to call Member Services next week to reserve a studio. What I plan on doing is asking first about BCV and BWV, then SSR and VWL, and finally OKW.

Now, what I am asking is: Has anyone done a similar thing? That is, trying to reserve a room for a trip within, say, about three to five months and going down the list of DCV resorts.

I would like to hear about your experiences. Note that I'm not a big fan of waiting lists because of the uncertainty of them.

Just a heads up....I would not wait until next week, I would call today! I have a ressie for Feb. 4-9 and called last Monday to see if I could change it to Jan. 29-Feb. 4 and the only studios left for that timeframe were at SSR and OKW. I choose to keep my original plans and studio at WLV. Of course, there may always be a cancellation, but just wanted to let you know now.

I agree...........call today! You can just ask MS where there's availability for the dates you want; if you're lucky, you'll have a choice.

So if i understand this correctly usually there is more availability at okw or ssr most of the time is that mainly b/c they are larger resorts

Many people have made reservations in the timetable you mention and your methodology is good. Be prepared to move down your list until you hit on an available room. Of course, be aware that different resorts have different point schedules so you should know how many points you want to use up front.

As others have said....MS is open today so go ahead and call. Operators are standing by!

Thanks to n2mm and the others who gave advice and suggestions: I made the call and made reservations for the last week in March at the SSR. I had two windows to make the trip: Jan. 29-Feb. 3 and the last week in March. The other resorts did not have any studios available (I didn't try OKW, however). I just made airline rezzies and now I can use DME, buy an AP, and maybe buy the dining plan.
