DVC members/Why no free internet for us?

sjdisneywedding said:
yeah and???? isnt this is the case with just about anything subsidized?

everyone pays their share for the OVERALL product

theres always someone using something more than someone else or less than someone else.

one member at SSR may use the transportation 100 times a day, another may not have ever used it. yet they still pay the same rate per point.

everyone is always happy when the "stuff" they use is paid for, but if they dont use something then whoaaaa--let "THEM" pay for it

let me clue you in on something--theres is no WE and THEY.. its all US
Well said :thumbsup2

this is the easiest excuse that exists, it drives me nuts. you get no where in anything with that type of thinking.

Do you mean that if you don't like the reason it is an 'excuse". I think that services should be paid for by the user unless the expense is approved by the membership.

I don't think we actually get a vote. Please correct me and tell me where to cast my ballot. :)
BTW I will never be able to use the slide at OKW( they didn't make it accessible) but my dues pay for it. The slide is not necessary but does enhance the resort for some. That's the way I look at the internet. Not necessary but it would enhance the resort for some.

no I mean saying that the solution is as simple as just having those who want/use an item pay for it is an easy way out.

why dont we have people dropping coins in the bus to get from a dvc resort to a park--hey i dont use the busses why the heck should i be paying for that through my dues

it truly blows me away that people would be willing to fight AGAINST free internet, if the solution was merely a few dollars per year in dues.

I would be willing to bet that these same people against free internet would also be agruing the other side if we already had free internet and we were discussing making everyone pay individually

then every member there ever was would be saying how they use it every day to check and post to the Dis and how dare they take that perk away from us.

its just funny

The cost for internet spread out over 100,000 users will be cheap, especially if they keep charging $10 for non-DVC owners.

Remember the video rentals are free and they charge non-owners $.

exactly it would simply be another perk among many

the whole idea is to have the best possible membership with as many perks for as managable a price as possible

I think the relatively low cost to provide an internet service combined with the large number of members makes free interent something to investigate

maybe not today or tomorrow especially if the outside provider is tied into a contract but in the very near future.

Actually, the slide was paid for Disney/DVD, the upkeep is paid for by dues. Just as the installation of the high speed internet equipment and the equipment was paid for by a private contractor who has a right to make a profit on that equipment. If Disney and DVC chose not to pay the contractor directly, then it is the users of the service who are paying for it.

The challenge would be who to change and who not too. Is the internet free to anyone staying on points? Only to DVC members staying on points? What about people paying cash? Is it different for a member or non-member? Is it wired only (easier to track which rooms get free use) or wireless too? How do decide who can access the wireless for free? As well how do you handle the wireless for DVC resorts that have a non-DVC sister resort beside them?

Not that I am against having free internet but I'm guessing that it isn't as simple as people are making it sound. There is likely a different cost involved for each resort (especially the non-WDW ones) meaning that cost wouldn't necessarily be spread evenly over 100,000 members.

Your opinion and you are guessing!

theres is no WE and THEY.. its all US

Again an opinion. You have decided it is 'us'. It is not 'us' unless Disney can change the contract with the vendor and the membership will support the change.

Remember the video rentals are free and they charge non-owners $

This was a one time expense, probably paid for by Disney, since the videos can be rented by hotel guests.

But aren't we DVC so with our membership purchases didn't we pay for the slide? probably stretching it here, but in theory doesn't our initial purchases pay for the bricks and sticks of DVC?

DVD is Disney Vacation Development, not DVC.

:confused3 ok I guess I developed DVC and said "WE ARE A GROUP OF MANY!". its not an opinion that dvc is a group of many members--everything else is decided for the whole, "us".
