I have officially given up on the search engine. I know there have been threads about this before, but I can't get search to pull them (or anything, for that matter) up.

If I want to spend one night at a DVC resort on cash (I am a DVC member) and call to book, is there a discount? Whom should I call -- CRO or MS?

Thanks,

Julie

You would call Member Services, there usually is a discount, but it may vary from season to season. Perhaps someone else could provide additional info.

The discount is 25% off rack rate. But it is not always available. Especially during busy times. Some room categories are never available for cash - BW view at BWV, standard view at BWV, dedicated two bedroom villa with two beds in the second bedroom at BCV.

If you have an AP, you might also call CRO to try for an AP discount.

Yes, just call MS with your date(s) and resort preference and specify that you're looking for availability with the DVC cash discount (25% off the rack rate). Have more than one choice in mind tho as far as resort if you're looking for a peak period. SSR and OKW are large and I think have the most availability. The rooms in the cash inventory come & go and you can call ahead at 11 months out for this option!! We were able to grab a studio over MLK weekend at VWL on cash at around 5 months out. Then last Oct. I had to call 3 diff. times looking for a studio for this July at AKV. I think that probably was because the rooms are still under construction so there was even less available. Anyway, I finally got it on the 3rd call. Keep your options open for diff. resorts if you have a specific date that you want, call as far out as you can and keep calling every few days if you have something in particular that you want as the inventory changes.:thumbsup2

The advantage of booking through member services is if you get the cash discount on the same type room, they can link the reservations and you only have to check-in once. If you book the cash night through CRO, you will have to check-out and get new keys for the cash night.

PLEASE SAY IT AIN'T SO!!!

:worried: :scared1:

You can often get a better discount than the 25% offered through MS. We did better last january with an AP discount for a 2BR at OKW. I have a BWV studio booked for September and I did better with a bounceback discount.

Everytime I have called, there is nothing availble, the room is available, for full rack... plus tax. I have made multiple calls. Once I just cancelled. I don't pay Disney full Rack, and I 'm not paying it through MS. I either cough up the points, or find a cheaper hotel.

Yes, the AP rates are usually closer to 40% off IF YOU HAVE an AP and IF they have a resort you want...but they don't usually release the availability until about 2 months out. If you want to plan something further out you cannot count on AP rates. ALSO, I just found out last month that if you already have a DVC cash ressie they will not let you book an AP discount room for the same dates unless you cancel the other ressie first!! We have a DVC ressie for an AKV value studio (the one that it took 3 calls to get). Their AP rates came out last month for the regular lodge part and I could've saved almost $200 if I was willing to call back to MS and cancel then call the AP hotline back. But they would not tell me how many of the "pool view" rooms they had at the AP rate - they would only say "we have at least one". I figured my luck would be that I would cancel the DVC room & then by the time I was on hold over there blah, blah I would call back & the AP room would be gone. I was not willing to take the risk of losing BOTH so we stayed with the studio. It was a bit frustrating to be honest since the ressies were thru 2 different phone numbers. Neither side could handle both requests. If the DVC room was done under CRO then the AP people could've done it all. I still don't understand what the issue is about being able to have 2 different ressies but they would not let me.
