75,000.

I had the pleasure of spending over 2 hours with a friend who works at DVC Operations in Celebration and the number of members continues to grow!

I asked what that number means and it is unique members, so even though we own several different contracts- each with it's own member number, we are still counted as 1 member for purposes of that 75,000 total.

DVC continues to be very interested in the opinions and satisfaction of it's member/owners. This site is but one of the means used to take a look into the issues/concerns of DVC ownership.

Some points raised here are fully appreciated by DVC, but not understood by other Disney management areas- thus creating a bumpy road if not a roadblock to implementation of some member benefit opportunities. Please continue to voice concerns here and to your DVC Vacation guide, as those issues are important to the overall improvement of the DVC program.

We can look forward to some new announcements in the next 60 days. Our Guidebooks should be coming out within the next 30 days or so.

The future of DVC looks brighter than ever.

Stay Tuned!! :)

That's good to hear. This coupled with responses on satisfactution surveys should assure we get our thoughts and opinions known to DVC management.

Is it possible for you to give us any specific examples of what you discussed with your friend?

75,000 unique members is amazing! Makes me feel not so crazy after all about my love for vacationing so often in Disney.

Good news! We defintly will stay tuned! Thanks, Doc.

I feel we always get great information from you. Unbiased, precise, and informative! Thanks for all your time spent doing research and talking to CM's and management about our DVC investments! You are awesome! Love reading your posts! Thanks again!

Doc, thanks for getting an answer to that age old question, "What's a member?"

Thanks for sharing.
.

With 75,000 members, the 7 month window at all of the resorts but especially the smaller ones will get harder and harder to book.

Thanks for the info and the tease (new announcements?). Now I have something to look forward to besides my next trip.

HBC

Doc, thanks for the update. You're so informative.

If there are two names on a contract does that count as two members? Or does members just count master contracts?

Thanks for the update Doc.....from all of us "DVC members below".

"Is it possible for you to give us any specific examples of what you discussed with your friend?"

One thing we discussed at length was member perks- things like admission discounts that must involve other income centers within the Disney corporate structure rather than DVC itself. The DVC staff is well aware of the differences in DVC members and the typical guest who comes to WDW, but other divisions are not as savvy. The vast majority of DVC members come at least annually and spend 5-10 nights onsite. Of that vast majority, a significant number come multiple times within a 12 month period. (The poll done on this site recently demonstrated that over 50% of those who responded have annual passes.) The Theme Parks division defines a "frequent visitor" as someone who visits every three years. Most of their programs, incentive and otherwise, are geared with that mindset. While our DVC staff has attempted to educate their corporate peers about the subleties of DVC ownership, thus far the comments have fallen on deaf ears to an extent. There are signs, from some of the higher up offices, that DVC will be granted elevated status within the corporate structure, but with that new input comes new responsibility for DVC and the speed at which this takes place will likely move forward cautiously .

One thing we all need to consider when something is not to our liking within DVC (resort, MS, activities, etc.)- each change that takes place is in response to suggestions/comments/complaints from us as members. Disney in general and DVC specifically, has nothing to gain by allowing us to be disatisfied with any aspect of our Disney experiences. They like for us to enjoy ourselves. They like for us to look forward to the next trip and they have nothing to lose/everything to gain by helping us enjoy ourselves. We sometimes need to keep that in mind when a request isn't met or we find something not up to par in our room. Yes, maybe the window sills should have been dusted and light bulb changed, but they will gladly and promptly correct the oversight if given the chance.

....climbing down from soapbox...

"If there are two names on a contract does that count as two members? Or does members just count master contracts?

In our case, DW and I jointly own four master contracts and 7 add-ons. We are jointly counted as one member of the 75,000+ total.

As for the pending announcements, I wish I had something concrete to share. As with many things within Disney, there are usually many things on the discussion table at all times. Some never make it beyond the initial meeting and others are developed for months and then still tabled (ie. Eagle Pines). Many of the rumors that we have all heard actually may have had some basis at one time. (Rumors about DVC resorts at AKL, CR, etc. have certainly been discussed- but are still not any closer to reality.) Something that seems to be definite today maybe replaced tomorrow, so until the official announcement is made, everything else is truly a rumor. Rest assured, we'll have a report here as soon as something is definite. (Even official announcements often have some "wiggle room" built in- remember the DVC resort announced for downtown NYC?)

Stay Tuned!

DOC, you are so correct :)! DVC CMs WANT to hear from members & the CMs DO listen to the members. I have never met a CM who wasn't willing to listen to members.

Thanks so much Doc. I agree that CMs want to provide magical vacation experiences for all guests and DVC CMs know that we are some of the most frequent and repeat visitors, certainly as a group (leaving out locals for a moment).

Can't wait to see what makes its way next from concept to reality within DVC :)

Doc thanks for the info. I for one have had nothing but helpful CM's at DVC. It seems sometimes the resorts that were all cash and then add DVC like VWL, some of the CM's like in housekeeping have trouble understanding we do care for the rooms and expect something tto be fixed and not lame excuses. I have had a couple of those.

Thanks for the information Doc. DH just asked me today when would the new guide book be here! I will let him know that it will be here soon. Annmarie

Doc...thanks for the information. That's quite a lot of people who are DVC members.

Let's see...75,000 members at an average of say....3.5 people visiting per member (just made that up but it seems reasonable).

So that's over 250,000 DVC visitors. Based on your poll currently going on, we're going to find that many of these visit many days a year.

As Disney builds more DVC resorts, the collective buying power of DVC members just grows and grows. What was once a relatively small group of die-hard Disney fanatics is now a large, knowledgeable group who have made a substantial financial commitment to Disney.

Again, thanks for taking the time to post your discussion points here. :)

the one lifetime payment for admission will come thru. I could definitely get behind a single lump sum payment for a lifetime pass. Bigger discounts at the restrauants, a water park just for DVC members extra early admission to the parks.

What else can we come up with ??????

Sounds like a good time to have become a new Member!

Scratch
:smooth:

PS I like that idea of a Lifetime Pass to the Parks! DD would just want to have a Lifetime Pass to DisneyQuest!LOL
