DVC members, are you happy???

:love: We are very happy with our membership. We have been members since 1994 and have never regreted it a day. You might look up the current prices for the accommodations and then you can see the the overall picture. The cash prices go up every year and you have to pay tax on them. Our price remains the same and no tax just dues. We have 600 points and can stay about 8 days in a GV for the cost of 2 days. At the cash prices that is about a 6000 dollar savings. Hope all these emails help you. It is the greatest thing we ever did!!! :cool1:
 
cardio75: We live in the same area as you, and find that it is a very easy drive down to FL. Actually too easy, we tend to visit about 3 times a year. Many of those trips, we bring some extended family with us. And since we don't live close to our families, what better place to visit with them than WDW.
 
We are a family of 3 and ditto what has already been said. We have never figured dollars and cents and monetary break even stuff. The type of vacation experience you get and the great accomodations and great family memories are all we dwell on. Although, I would be a little happier with more points also!! LOL :cool1: :cheer2:
 

We bought 150 pts.in Oct.'03. We figured we would go every other year and stay for a week in a one-bedroom, maybe a little more often. Well....we bought another 50 pts. in June '04!! We stayed at BWV in August, again for Thanksgiving, and we're planning a 9 day trip in June at BCV! Am I saving money??? I don't think so! I figure that we used to stay at moderates for 6 nights. So that would be about $600 for resort, 400 for passes, 650 for airfare and then about 1000 of food/misc. Total of $3000 roughly. Well, now we pay about $2400 a yr in payments(our choice), airfare $800, passes $400, food/misc $1500. Total...roughly 5000. However, we go now for a total of 20 days. Once we get done with paying for our points (in about 2 years) it will be even cheaper. So, are we happy? Oh yes. I may be paying more at the moment but I'm taking more trips and my dh is actually going on, and enjoying, vacations with us!!
 
We joined DVC in June 1992 and have not regretted a minute of it!!! It's the best thing to come along for us!!! :goodvibes
 
Got married at WDW and bought DVC for our 1st anniversary when we went back. Best purchase we could have ever made.
 
We finally bought at SSR last month. We have AP's so we find ourselves staying at WDW about every 2-3 months with DD12 and DD2. It just made sense for us to buy DVC with our usage pattern. I can see us buying an add-on/resale in the next few years...probably at VWL!
 
Ditto!! This family of 3 loves our DVC!!! If your family is big into Disney, you can't go wrong with an investment in DVC!!
 
We are also a family of four, bought in when my kids were 10. We've added on a small contract since our initial purchase, and husband and I think it was the best darn thing we've ever done. I find yes, it does pay for itself in a few stays, not even 4 or 5 years but 4 or 5 visits (usually the 4 or 5 visits comes WAY before 5 years goes by for us DVCer's! :sunny: ). We bought in May of 2000, with an October use year, so when we purchased we were given our current allotment of points, so we banked them for the following year, since we visited two months before purchasing. We waited for the following year, borrowed some points from the next year, thereby combining almost 3 years of points and did the land/sea vacation. Would have retailed for about $6600, if memory serves - that's like 1/2 of what I paid for my vacation club right there! Before we bought we would stay at the Poly, or WL, and even at $200 a night that's $1400 plus tax just on a regular room! Now we stay in a beautiful one bedroom at the BWV, with our first trip visiting OKW coming up, and you can't beat these accommodations! They're awesome. Between the washer/dryer, the kitchen, and my all time favorite, the jacquzzi tub - we are soooo glad this is where we call our "second home".

We purchased our OKW resale (250 points) in the summer of 2000, after our first family stay at DisneyWorld. We purchased sight-unseen, never having been to a dvc kiosk or on any dvc property. All we knew what was stated in the dvc cd, and what the kind people on these boards said.

I know the DVC stays this last year probably helped save my sanity, and I'm not sure how much of that statement is simple rhetoric. Being able to take the "World" at our own pace each trip, and being able to afford multiple trips because our accommodations were already taken care of made for some of our most memorable trips. I can honestly say that last year we had five (!) "trip's of a lifetime." Each trip in it's own right was special to us. Two of those were non-dvc at Animal Kingdom Lodge, but we could afford those because the bulk of the other trips were DVC. And on three of these trips we brought along a friend of my daughter's.

As far as the money aspect - here are some figures from a spreadsheet I keep. To put these numbers in perspective, we paid about $14K after fees for our contract. Even taking the possibility of AP discounts for these rooms ( and a GV at NYE would probably NOT be discounted !) you can see that we have still come out ahead. In addition, our contract has increased in value since we purchased it. If we sold now - heaven forbid - we would have stayed in some excellent rooms for pretty much our maintenance fees :) .

You are smart to be doing your homework before buying. I can honestly say that this purchase has been the most rewarding way to spend a bunch of money (besides our home) we have experienced. We have had various vacations including a cruise, beach and several different WDW vacations. We have visited with family and with friends using our points. We never would have felt free to enjoy such vacations otherwise. We are DVC (family of 4) true believers. We bought our points in 2001 when they were a bit cheaper. You might do better with a resale. If you can do less than $80 per pont you will have a super value for your vacation dollar. Good Luck! :wave2:

:banana: Yes, we are happy with DVC. We have 700 pts, and we go 4 times a year, and we also wish we had bought in 92, when we first toured. It's so relaxing!! We didn't join then because I thought I couldn't get along without daily maid service. :rotfl2:
 
So happy here- best mental health purchase we've ever made for our family of four-- and we get to share with the rest of our crazy family even with our modest 150 points (we are studio people). Good luck deciding!!

I bought in 2001 and definately am traveling free now. I paid cash for my 250 points at VWL. It was a very bold decision and I worried at first. I invested all I had but didnt want finance charges to alter the actual savings. It was well worth it. I love it and go every year to Disney world. Though there are dues of $1,000 yearly how could I stay for 2 weeks in a 2 bedroom at VWL for that?
(even if it was in August) This Spring break I am taking my 21 year old daughter on a Disney Cruise preceded by 3 nights at VWL for her birthday. I have never been on a cruise before..This trip is free.

Definitely glad I joined the DVC family. I am single and only purchased 160 SSR points. I am going for my 2nd trip in august with SIL and family in an OKW 2BR. The money seemed like a lot back then, but I am making my final payment in March and really enjoyed my first trip. Now I feel like it was a great purchase and how can I get a few more points??? Best of Luck and do your homework before buying so you'll have peace of mind once you do purchase.
 
Put us in the should have bought sooner and need more points category. We looked at the BWV's in Jan 2000, but didn't buy. We finally bought resale at the BW in 2003. We are a family of five and we go to Disney at least once a year. More if I can swing it. :teeth: DVC was a great choice for us.
