DVC member magic parties

I know a lot of the DVC regulars here probably know this already but I was listening to the DVC show podcast that talked about the DVC parties and heard incorrect information being shared with listeners. It was said that a member could bring 4 guests (5 people total) but that is not the case. The DVC member website shows that you can register a total of 4 people (the member and up to 3 guests) without an onsite reservation. If onsite for the party you can register up to the number of people on the DVC reservation(s). Here is the info right from the DVC website.

Party Size Limits
A Member can register themselves and up to 3 additional guests per Membership (for total of 4)—or up to the number of guests on his or her Resort reservation. Children younger than 3 years old do not need to be registered for this event.

Members With Multiple Resort Reservations
If Members have multiple Resort reservations, additional party size guidelines apply depending on how the reservation was booked:

  • When staying using Vacation Points or Reservation Points, Members can register themselves and up to the number of individuals on their Resort reservation(s).
  • When staying using cash or RCI® points, Members can register themselves and up to the number of individuals staying in the same room as the Member, per Membership.
@WebmasterPete I know you said you read the DVC forums so I thought you’d see this too.

Here's what I'm wondering. We have 4 people on our membership plus our 2 kids. How would that work? Anyone know? In the past they let you have 6 total but the last few it's just been 4.

The 6 of us usually travel together but the last couple of times we've had a max of 4 so it didn't matter.

Similarly I am trying to figure this out for a trip late this summer. We own DVC and are staying on a cash reservation during a moonlight magic. We are a couple with one kid. We are travelling with another family who are a couple with two kids. As I understand my husband and I cannot each bring 4 guests because we are the same membership - we can only bring four guests total (or maybe only up to our room reservation of guests) and our daughter is one of those guests. . As we did not book our friends room (none of us are staying on points) we cannot get enough tickets to include them. Is this right? 3 in one room with both adults being DVC members and four in the other room with no members. Perhaps we need to switch the names on the bookings and book one adult DVC member into each room...

If you are all staying onsite I think you’d be fine but it you are offsite I think you’d be limited to the 4 guests total despite multiple owners on the contract. When I registered for moonlight magic last year and put in our member number it listed my husband as the primary member. It allowed me to register for it and put that I would be picking up the tickets but I didn’t have the option to change the registration into my name as he is the 1st name on the deed. When I got the confirmation email it listed my husband and our DVC member # and then said “Use this field if an alternate Member with the same Member ID Number will be the one checking in at the event” followed by my name. As such my understanding is despite the number of members on a deed the limit is 4 people per membership. The only exception to that is if there is an onsite reservation.

I'm new to DVC, haven't even stayed on my points yet!

Could I just verify that if I am a DVC owner staying on a cash reservation with three other people in my room, I am eligible to register for moonlight magic at the earlier registration date and can bring the other 3 people on my reservation?

I don’t think as it stands you would be able to get them in as you are in different rooms and not staying on your membership (ie using points). Not sure if swapping the adults would work. I think that technically it should since DVC members would be on both reservations. However since all bookings are done online and it is two different cash reservation # you have to enter and hope to get in before registration sells out I’d be prepared it may not go as planned (Disney IT isn’t always the best). Also keep in mind that the adults who “swapped rooms” will have a magic band linked to the wrong room for charging and room access

As long as you have a blue DVC card (ie are eligible for membership perks) far as I know yes. Disney previously allowed members staying onsite with cash reservations to register on the onsite reservation date.

Cash rooms still count. It's just only the room the member is staying in counts.

That's what I thought but thought I'd check to be sure.

In addition to "yes" ::yes::: if you booked the cash reservation through Disney Reservation Center (not DVC Member Services), call to add your Member Number to that reservation once MM is announced. That way, you should receive an email to sign up on the first round (make sure your account is set up to receive emails).
Thankfully, I did just that, and we are going to the May 20 MM :cool1:

I need to call the normal reservation line to add my DVC member number?

IIRC, I called DVC MS to add my Member number to the cash reservation. (Ours is a bit of a convoluted reservation, so I made many calls). Good luck!

So, just to get this straight, we are staying at SSR on August 22 - 2 adult DVC members. We are hoping to bring our next door neighbours from home to the party that night. there are 4 of them staying at Pop. Can we bring all 4 or do we have to choose 2 of our favourites?

You can only get 4 total tickets, so it sounds like you have to pick your two favorites if you get tickets.

You can bring up to the amount of people on your reservation (2)
OR
you can bring yourselves plus 2 other people.

Assuming you don't have a dining plan, you can at least add your "2 favorites" to your room, or up to the amount you may have in room (though if you're in a 5 person studio, you might want to prepare yourselves to kiss goodbye your friendship with the one you left out :))
