DVC member button in the parks

Heck if you think a button is an ad, wait until you go on DCL.
They give you bright red hats that you are encouraged to wear for freebies... :lmao:
The ones they gave out 2 years ago were bright red everywhere, pretty obnoxious. I was actually very embarassed to wear it.
I ended up wearing it just to get the free stuff.

This year they changed the bill to tan/khaki color (the rest still bright red). It looked MUCH improved and I had no problem wearing it. And yes, I definitely understand that we are free walking advertisement for them but oh well... the hat was free and I forgot to bring one from home. :rotfl:

Actually, if WDW would give free hats (respectably colored. NOT bright red or any neon colors!) with embroidered "Member since... " when you go to visit I would definitely wear it. Or even a real pin with "member since...", I'd wear it. Button... mmm... I'll reserve judgement until I see the design.

Honestly, I was hoping the button was really a pin with a cute little dangly part with the year (heck, it could be 5 parts and they grab the base and the 4 year numbers and you put it together). That I would wear! Understated, cute, and something people would really want to trade! ;) But the buttons are huge... so not so excited. I will get one, but probably won't wear it.

I'll wear it with pride! Hey, maybe I'll talk somebody into it and get a referral!

But being a DVC member isn't something I really "celebrate" the same way. I'm happy to be one but that's because I love going to WDW and staying in villas when we go. I'm not sure being wished "Welcome Home" in the parks is going to do anything for me. I like hearing it at the resorts where we stay, but I think hearing it at the parks is going to be a little weird. I'll think about it more, but I just don't put it in the celebration category. Other PP's are probably right, this is a thinly veiled advertising campaign.
This advertising campaign has nothing to do with the DVC owner. It is all about making the non-DVC person next to you wonder, "Hey! Why is that couple special??"

We've seen this in action already while wearing the special DVC lanyards we received on a DLC cruise in 2005. It is amazing how many CMs recognize the lanyard from a mile off and jump at the chance to cheerfully shout, "Welcome Home!" with a warm smile and wave. That behavior turns heads quickly. Plenty of passers-by will immediately turn to see who got the great greeting. Perhaps a few of these will also stop by the kiosk to discover what the fuss is all about ...

Edited to add: Going beyond the first awareness ... the celebration buttons are already a bit hit with park attendees. How many of us are now trained to shout "Happy Birthday, Anna!" to a perfect stranger prompted by their button? We look for the buttons and so do others. Just think of the impact of seeing dozens of the DVC Owner buttons each day? "If all these people are owners ... ???"

We think it's awesome and will wear them with pride...

Sorry, I have to agree with those who think it is a little cheesy, but to each their own. If you enjoy wearing it, good for you and I certaintly wouldn't think any less of anyone that did; it just isn't for me.

Then again, I think Disney has sort of gone overboard with having buttons for everything and the whole "What will you celebrate". Don't get me wrong, I think it's great if you really are celebrating, but usually we aren't (other than that we are lucky enough to go to Disney again!), and I'm sure a lot of others aren't either, and they can be a little pushy about it, almost like you should make up something! I'm just afraid it sort of cheapens it for people who really ARE celebrating something, KWIM?

For the record, if it was a trading pin instead a of a big honkin' button, I think it would be a neat idea, but, again, to each their own ;)

I think it's a good idea. Adds to the magic plus you might be able to strike up a conversation and make some friends because of the buttons.

No doubt it's to get people that dont know about DVC curious. Maybe they figure a guest would be more apt to ask another guest about it, but they wouldnt stop and check out one of the DVC kiosks. Once a normal guest tells them what it is all about, from a guests view, as opposed to WDW's view, they may be more interested. I'm sure my wife and I will get one to wear. Hey, I actually like hearing people say "Welcome Home" :goodvibes

I LOVE this idea!!! I am very proud to be a DVC owner and LOVE talking DVC to anyone who will listen (yes, I'm a total dork :lmao:).

Now I can add this button to my tote bag collection. If this keeps up, I might have several "free" items that cost about $20 grand :rotfl2:

:rotfl: we always say the same thing. We call our $18,000 tote bag our most expensive piece of luggage ever :rotfl:

Maybe they should include a little waterproof pocket glued to the back, so we can put those little cards with owner's name and guide name in there! :)

:rotfl: Totebag, 3 black with metal logo hats (which, by the way, are excellent weapons if you hit someone just right...or by accident like what happened when DS was whipping it off his head right into my knuckles), button....the value is just going up and up!:3dglasses

Hats and Tote bags serve a purpose other than advertisement. I just don't get the idea of wearing a button to have someone say "welcome home" to you. To be honest I don't really care if about the whole "Welcome Home" saying anyway.

Yes and yes!

When I saw the button announcement, my first thought was, "Why?"

I don't get the appeal, but if it makes other folks happy to wear them, then go for it! :thumbsup2

Personally I'd like to have a "First trip Home" button, similar to our "First Disney trip" button we had last year.

Since we will be going "home" for the first time next week, we'd love that idea. Just hoping to get one of the buttons mentioned by the OP.

:confused3 Its not that much different than celebrating an anniversary. Its probably about the same financial commitment. :)

We got our buttons on Monday in Epcot. My kids wore them that day but then ended up making some buttons at the Community Hall that they've been wearing ever since.

They're mostly yellow with some purple and a DVC logo at the bottom. They're not ugly but I'm not going to wear one, in fact if my wife has her way they won't make the trip back home with us.

Lol...I am trained very well then as I do it almost always! :) I consider this my small minute contribution to the Disney Magic that we all love... IF THE WORLD was more like being at Disney, it would be a far BETTER WORLD imho!

So does anyone have a photo of the button??

My question exactly!!! :)

As for it being cheesy...perhaps it is....

Although I really wish they would have created a specific button for every DVC resort...would be cool with "your home resort name"and a color photo on it of the resort.

I have a friend who makes buttons...I might actually request a quote for a few and wear them....if done correctly I bet the DVC folks would "emulate" that idea...in fact I will suggest it when I go this Thursday (March 4th)....
