DVC meet and greet on DCL

What kinds of activities take place? Is it worth going to?

It is pretty much an hour long sales pitch but everyone gets a gift and there are some nice prizes. It is held on the first sea day in the morning. Coffee, tea, juices and some pastries are available. On our April '06 cruise every family got a gift bag that had 2 DVC hats inside as well as brochures on Adventures by Disney, a raffle card and point charts. They do a multi-media presentation showing how you can use your points for things like Adventures by Disney and then they start pulling the names for the raffle. You have to answer a trivia question but everyone in the room can help you. Some of the prizes are DVC beach towels, a leather passport case, soft sided coolers and light backpacks. We won a really nice 2 person beach towel that converts into its own carry case and includes 4 stakes to put it in the sand. Came in real handy on our visit to St. Johns.

On our 4-night Wonder cruise last summer the meet & greet was the afternoon (4-5 PM) of the Nassau day (day 2). We got hats and lanyards when we checked in and won a regular DVC beach towel in the trivia game (we got picked near the end so it was that, a mesh bag, or a pillow). It was a nice hour, and they had some cookies and snacks there. I'd do it again for the freebies and to meet other DVCers. But I agree that it was pretty much a sales pitch to get us to either add on or encourage us to talk DVC up to others we met on the cruise so we could be credited with the referral.

We also didn't have the DVC magnet on the door to our room when we checked in b/c they had not identified us as DVC members. But we stopped at the DVC desk on our way to dinner the first night and got our magnet for the door and some lanyards. They had a neat light-up pin that they were handing out too, but there weren't any left at that point. So we ended up with 2 sets of different DVC lanyards, which was nice b/c that's what I used for my KTTW card.

Are kids allowed to come?

Children are welcome but honestly I think they would be quite bored. It is a lot of sitting and watching a video screen or listening to someone talking. Our friends brought their two kids (ages 10 and 13) and they left before the presentation really started because they were bored.

I've been wondering the same question about the DVC meet. We didn't go last year because we had friends with us, but maybe we'll stop in when we go next summer.

As a matter of fact...no sauce. Although I desperately need it. When I posted that, I had 4 hours of sleep the previous night and already had over 40 hrs at work and only supposed to be working M-F. I had called my mom and she was worried because of how I was talking. Thought something was wrong.

Here here!! That's how you know who your real friends are....those that drink with you and those that are in the slammer with you (as opposed to those that bail you out-a true friend would be in jail with you)
