DVC in NYC?

We are considering a quick trip to NYC to see some Broadway shows in early March. Does anyone know what hotels are available for points? I can't access DVCmember.com (forgot my password!) and am wanting to do some research tonight. I know it's probably not the best "use" of points, but if we've got 'em, why not use 'em?
Thanks for the info!

The Manhattan Club is offered via DVC's Concierge Collection. There may be others available via RCI -- but booking will be more difficult.

Thanks so much!
The Manhattan Club looks just perfect for what we want. Calling Member Services first thing in the morning!:cool1:

Manhattan club requires 30 day advance booking.

Also, before you book do some quick math ( # of points * annual dues per point), Manhattan club points are high and sometimes you can find hotels in NYC for less $$$ depending on when you are coming.

I second this. You could ALWAYS find a comparable hotel for less money, and maybe better location too. Alternatively, you could rent Manhattan club from owner, check redweek.com.

Just curious on how your trip to NYC went? Planning a 2 night stay and wanted to look at options on the Concierge collection (now has Le Parker Meridien Hotel)

I looked into the Manhattan Club, and I was worried by all the negative comments by the timeshare owners there. There are a lot of complaints that they have never been able to use their timeshare due to overbooking, and similar comments. Maybe the company is making money by shafting the timeshare owners and renting to people like us, but I would really look carefully before staying there. The New York Attorney General seems to be involved, somehow.

Manhattan Club has been pulled from Concierge Collection. Definitely a situation to steer clear of. (A Google search will turn up a lot.)

Unfortunately the replacement is a very poor use of points.

I'm thinking that way too...but then again you can't beat the location. I'm still figuring out how to use that formula (points*annual dues per point) :-(

The easiest way is to ask yourself what a broker would give you for those points. Working with a broker is easy - it will take maybe an hour of your time to do all the paperwork and make the reservation, so subtract what an hour worth of your free time is worth to you. If I plan ahead (i.e. offer my points long before they risk expiring so the reservation will fall before the seven month window), mine are worth $13 a point from David. My free time right now is ample, so maybe $20 worth of bother. So if I want to make a 200 point Disney Collection/Concierge collection/RCI reservation, it had better cost me more than $2500 in cash.

Got it. Thank you

I don't have experience using DVC points for NY, but I wanted to add that I stayed at the Manhattan Club in May 2015 and thought it was nice enough. It had a good amount of room in the studio with a queen bed, sitting area/pullout couch, small table and chairs, and a fridge and microwave and a kitchenette sink. I stayed at West 57th Street by Hilton in October 2014 and loved it, though it is just a large hotel room with a very nice bathroom, but super comfortable and quiet. No lobby to speak of, but the elevators were quick. I also just stayed at Hilton Club last month and was really pleased. Also just a hotel room, with a smallish bathroom, but it has a lounge with a good selection of breakfast items, coffee and soda and bottled water throughout the day, and wine and snacks in the evening. All of these are well located and I would stay at any of them again. As mentioned previously, maybe a good use of your points would be to rent them out and use the proceeds to rent a place in NY. Good luck! You will have so much fun seeing shows!

Wyndham has a midtown Manhattan resort -- Wyndham Midtown 45, located at 205 E. 45 Street. I doubt you will see it in RCI, although I do see some early March availability. I haven't stayed there yet, but I've heard some good comments over on the TUG Wyndham board.

Just know as a local that is not midtown as a tourist would think. 3rd avenue is far away from everything and your closest train line the 4,5,6 (green line) is going to be no help to you to get to the most popular tourist places in the city.

My parents own at Manhattan Club. Recently I discovered that booking rooms has gotten much easier. What I heard is that the New York attorney general blocked Manhattan Club from selling more timeshares and from renting rooms to non-owners. That left much more inventory for owners to book. Something weird is going on there and I'm waiting for the other shoe to drop. My prediction is that annual fees will skyrocket.

I mention this because we own DVC and I'm actually happy that our DVC expires in 2050-something. Disney will be able to resell those rooms eventually so that gives them incentive to keep up a good product. I don't mind that I 'lose' it. I'll be done with Disney by then, will have gotten good value, and don't have to worry (or at least worry less) about Disney screwing with the product. It is in Disney's best interest to keep the product pristine so when contracts start expiring, they can sell again with a good history to back them.
