DVC - If I could do it again...

More points (actually 5 more, don't know how I messed that one up  )
And instead of 220 in one contract - which isn't big by any means. I would have bought a 150 and a 70point contract. That is so I can sell off one and buy an add on somewhere else.

But that is ok, since I don't have enough points anyway right now, an add on while keeping that 220 won't hurt.

We bought in '93 when the kids were babies. If I could do it again I'd have bought more points... instead of adding on at higher prices.

Let me count the ways. I had multiple opportunities to buy Disney...in 1994 and 1997. In 2001 I finally bought but I should have tried for a small resale contract instead because I then would have gotten an add on at BCV.

I'll be a little different....

We should have bought less points!! ...with our first contract. 300 is a bit too much for us. (this would leave rooms for add-ons!!) Or split it into smaller chunks so we could sell some but not all the points.

We should have been more knowledgeable about the importance of UY and your ablility to choose. We lucked out with that one and got a great UY for us (Oct.).

We would have bought sooner. We looked into it in 1997 but thought it was still just a timeshare. We now have 200 points. 150 at BCV and 50 at SSR. DH says all the time he wishes we had done this sooner. Guess we will just have to make up for all that lost time. :rotfl2:

Wish we'd done it sooner! DH already wished we'd bought more points, haven't even used 1 yet!

And thanks to our guide who recommended 3 150 point contracts to pass on to our 3 kids - what a great idea! Now we need to add points so we can keep a contract for ourselves! (Our kids are 5,7 and 9  )

like everyone else I wish I bought sooner , I just wasn't in a place to do so .

Someone posted in another thread that I thought was smart and wish I had done it.

Now while you are deciding to buy , or where and how many points to buy , act as if you own it already in regards to money and pay the dvc bill $200.00 lets say each month into a savings account . That way when you do buy if it takes you a couple of months or a year to do so you are used to spending it on dvc and you can use the savings as part of the down payment . Of course this only works if you aren't paying cash.

I knew when I bought I would buy more later I'd like them now but bought what I could afford and still have money to spend at WDW <G>

p.s. Staying at POP for the first time is what drove me over the edge , I came home called DVC and said I was buying.

I would have bought more point of course :lmao: . I would have bought in 1997 on my honeymood instead of waiting until 2003.

Any chance he/she suggested 3 contracts for more commission?
either way it's a great move.

We should have bought in 2000 when we took the tour at the BW. Instead we didn't buy until 2003. Oh well, hindsight is 20/20.

Lisa, an excellent argument for buying smaller contracts:

It leaves room for add-ons!! Similar to saving room for desert! :cloud9:

I haven't read the whole thread but I would have done the following: bought 3 100 point contracts instead of our single 300 point contract. I think it would be easier to leave to our 3 kids. However, this might force them to get along when they grow up so they can use the points!

I wish we would have bought sooner and bought moe points. I am already looking at an add-on contract and we have only been members for 2 years!

Wow! You waited 2 years? That's willpower! We couldn't get past 4-5 months before adding on ... and we still want more ... :goodvibes

Addonitis ... there should be a therapy group for people like me ... :rotfl2:

I thought commission was based on the point alotment/value, not the number of contracts? :confused3

We should have bought when my boss did, when it first opened. A little known fact is that when DVC first started at Old Key West they had a very good incentive to buy. They were offering free park passes to all DVC owners and there guests for there entire length of stay. This went on for EIGHT YEARS. What a savings! :cool1: That deal alone was worth and in some cases equal the cost of ownership. Today, ownership is still a great deal. :woohoo: I just wish I joined earlier. :guilty:

I would have joined the DIS boards and researched before buying. I actually bought at full price during a friends and family promo
