I have stayed at SSR twice now and both times I have been less than impressed with the cleanliness of the rooms. I have checked in to a room with dirty toilets (used and not flushed), mold and soap scum on bathroom tiling, both on the floors and showers. dirty carpets, etc. As I said this has happened on two seperate visits. This is a new facility. What is it going to be like in ten years? Has anybody else had similar experiences and if so what can we do as a community to change this? Complaints on an individual basis seem to fall on deaf ears.
:confused3

The less than clean rooms you describe are what I call "lack of attention to detail." Who did you call to let them know you were not pleased with the cleanliness of your room?

Sorry to hear you experienced unclean rooms. I am very meticulous about this type of cleanliness and have stayed at SSR twice without a problem. Perhaps I got lucky? Or you were just unlucky?

Have you experience this at any other Disney Resorts, in particular DVC? Or has it just been SSR?

I doubt that SSR has even BEEN there long enough to have mold.

If SSR had been open a week, that would be enough time for mold to form. Attention to detail is important and can help with some of the issues.

I agree with DoctorP. Mold can form practically overnite! Did you report these problems to housekeeping? If so, what was the response?

I reported this to Housekeeping who commented that all rooms are cleaned thoroughly as guests depart. They did come to the room to look over the situation but seemed rather aloof, stating that the grout in between the tiling is difficult to keep clean. As we had already flushed the toilet they had no comment. I don't think they believed me. At any rate if this happens again I am going take this to the next level, whatever that may be.

The only resorts I have stayed in at Disney are SSR and the Polynesian.
The Polynesian was spotless.

We stayed their last September and it was spotless.

I read in in Vacation Magic (I think) that the longtime Housekeeping Manager from OKW was taking over Housekeeping at SSR. I think it will be great to have someone with proven experience in that position. Not sure if he has taken over yet, but maybe someone can give you his name.

Actually it only takes days. Mold grows in the shower in just a few days in those humid climates. We stayed at a Marriott timeshare in Orlando a few years ago. We were only there for 5 days, but there was mold growing in the shower before we left. I remember remarking to DH that I'm not sure I could live in Orlando with my allergies to mold.

I would have been greatly disappointed if we had the combination of problems you described. I definitely would have gone back to the front desk and requested another room.

As a community, I'm hoping everyone will report major problems like this to the front desk and/or housekeeping so they can address these problems especially if it's a reoccurring issue.

We had our first SSR stay last October and we didn't have a similar experience but it wasn't spotless. It looked basically clean which is what I expect. I don't expect the villas to be spotless because they can't possibly do a thorough cleaning in the amount of time they have. I always pack cleaning stuff but I'll have to remember dusting supplies next time because it was pretty dusty in one of the bedrooms.

I didn't report every item that we discovered during our trip but I reviewed the one major item with the front desk upon checkout because it wasn't serious (the soap dish in the master shower was detached from the wall).

We just spent 4 days at SSR during Super Bowl weekend. This is our new home and it was our first time staying. Our studio was very clean. We were in the Congress Park 2700 building.

Super clean here too :) we stayed in Nov thanksgiving :) Going back in 2 days I will report back :)

stayed their last October it was spotless. Have stay at several resorts and never had a dirty room. Hope you have better luck next time.

We stayed in Dec and found no problems with our room.

Sure hope that you have a better experience next time.

The previous OKW Housekeeping Manager is now at SSR. the current OKW Hosuekeeping Manager took over around November 2004; he has worked at various WDW resorts - OKW is his first DVC property.

Thanks Judith! I thought I read that. I think it bodes well for SSR and OKW, as OKW was immaculate when I toured it in 2003.

Evidently they are experiencing similar housekeeping problems at OKW as well. There is a new thread addressing this same issue. Do I see a pattern forming here? I think DVC needs to shake up the Housekeeping department.
There is no excuse for dirty rooms.
