DVC Hawaii to have DCL Cruise Ship Terminal?

Yesterday I said it would take a DCL cruise to make me interested in DVC Hawaii! Interesting article, thank you for posting. We did stay on the Queen Mary when it was Disney's and visited the Spruce Goose and that area.

thats pretty awesome

I was excited before but now, Im ready to leave right this second...

2011 seems like forever now

Well never say never but to me there are a lot of "ifs" in that article. I can happen but that doesn't mean it will happen. Still the Ko Olina area is only about 1/2 hour away from the Honolulu piers so if DCL does want to cruise to Hawaii and tie it in with the new resort it wouldn't be any harder than being in Port Canaveral and going over to WDW.

Definately not for certain, but it would make sense. A crusie around the Hawaiian islands would be awesome!

I can not imagine Disney building their own cruise ship terminal near the new resort. If they did anything they would just have DCL ships dock at the existing terminal next to the Aloha Tower. Building a cruise ship terminal is an immense undertaking and involves a lot more than just building the terminal. All kinds of maritime laws come into play, etc. Plus you also have to start dealing with things like the TSA, dock workers, transportation, etc. Plus who wants all of that next to a beautiful resort.

its not like it would right in the middle of the resort, Im sure the planning would not take away from the resort atmosphere at all

sure its a huge undertaking but seems like they were ready to take it on previously but got shut down by regulations before they could start, here it seems the Hawaiin officials would not have a problem passing an approval

all the nay sayers:sad2: , probably all the ones who said there would never be an AK DVC or a DL DVC or a Hawaii DVC

no, nothing says it will happen, its just some food for thought

and my thoughts are it sounds pretty darn good

Just curious, a question for the OP:

Are you the author of the referenced article? The byline at the link says by Dwelty - I was wondering if that was you?

It is true that this may not happen, (you could say this about any Disney project on the drawing boards) however if you connect the dots, it looks pretty likely. Here are my reasons:

The Hawaii Department of Transportation and the Hawiian Horbor athority already told the developer at Ko Olina that if the could get a cruise company on board they would move forward.

The Pier would not be built by Ko Olina or Disney, it would be built in the state owned Kalaeloa Harbor. with State funds.

Hawaii is very tourisim friendly, they want a Disney Cruise Line Presence, as well as any other new lines that might use the terminal.

Norwegian has been waiting for Ko Olina to create a tourist draw for their ships, The Disney Resort/entertainment complex could meet this need.

There are only 4 terminals large enough to accomidate cruise ships in Honolulu Harbor. These are always in use, and in fact occasionally tendering is necessary when the terminals are all in use. In order for Disney to enter the Hawiian Market, a new dock is almost a necessity (unless they plan on tendering)This pier would not be a Disney exclusive terminal, and would most likely service other Cruise Lines as well.

Disney would welcome the revenue that other lines would bring as well, in addition to increased traffic, it would expose all of those tourist to the "Disney Experience" Imagine the revenue opportunities:

Hotel Stays prior to Cruise
Retail, Dinning sales revenue
Day use admission to the resort facilities
another DVC sales center

This fits right into the plans that Jay Rasulo describes in his Regional Entertainment Plan.

yes, this would be great all the way around for Disney. It would get more guests not only taking their cruise and using their resort but it would also bring in the outside guests from other ships for revenue and possible future dvc sales.

one type of example on a much smaller scale is the Atlantis Resort in the Bahamas, they do quite well from the cruise ships. They have made real good use of the daily passes through the cruise ships themselves to bring guests in. The guests get use of the main areas, but there are some areas left only to members.

I wouldnt say Atlantis is what it is because of this alone, but it sure has helped a lot more people become even more aware of it.

The amount of people would have to be controlled somehow, probably by limiting the number of passes per day, because 4 or so cruise ships can carry what close to 10,000 people or so.

This would be my dream come true! We have hoped to make it to Hawaii in the not too distant future and combined with a Disney Cruise, well what can I say?.....Heaven!!

Now to save points and cash up, we needed almost 1800 points for the 4 of us to cruise the Med this past summer with DCL, so I imagine it would be pricey, but definitely worth it!!

The new Disney Hawaiin Resort and the new DCL ships won't be ready till 2011! Plenty of time to save the cash, lol, but points can only be banked for a year at a time. Just gonna have to keep traveling till they are ready for us, lol!

I can see them having a cruise ship here in California sailing to Hawaii and around the islands than last stop after cruising the islands would be Castaway Cay Hawaii...just like in the Bahamas.....

That would be grand. It would also give a chance for cruisers to see the new hotel and come stay there when not cruising or buy into the DVC....

Im up for it:thumbsup2

There is one problem however....we want to buy at DL/GCV and we want to buy at Hawaii...but we are also planning on getting on the new ship in 2011...there is not enough $$$$ for everything so could someone please give us some,,,please:love: :lmao:

I'm on the island and don't see this happening right now...the locals are not receptive to additional seagoing vessels and the construction of a pier would probably not be well recieved. The Superferry battle is still ongoing and it's gotten ugly between both sides and even between islands.

The piers at Aloha Tower are more than 1/2 hour away from Ko'olina. Probably closer to 45 mins, depending on traffic. (which has gotten HORRIBLE)

I read further and noticed an article saying there could be DVC in Spain and France and now I am really excited as I am in the process of buying an apartment in Spain and hope to drive through France at least once a year

I respectfully disagree. Tourisim is the lifeblood of the Hawiian economy and always will be. The Hawiian State government knows this. The allure of Disney is just too great. Hotels are bult all the time in Hawaii, but how many times does the State Governor appear to announce it? (This has only happened 2 other times in the past that I know of, once when the Florida Governor appeared with Walt to announce the Florida Project, and once with the Californian Governor to announce the building of California Adventure. another reason, by the way, that I think there is more to be announced on this project).

The reason there is public is aprehension about another cruise line is due in large part to the items you mention, Traffic in and around the Piers at Aloha Tower. What better way to combat that problem than constructing an alternate option away from the gridlock of Honolulu. The super ferry is an entire different animal since it does not bring in additional tourist revenue. It just shuffles tourists around.
