Update: 7/13/2022 -- We are DVC RIV owners! :goofy: We spoke with our guide the next day and he reassured us that we could get a Sept UY. He had to speak to his manager and get approval, but he didn't make a big thing about it. He has been a great guide. He went through every single charge with me, along with the discounts, and has been prompt with answering my questions.

I do need to call member services and have them bank my 2020 points though. It's on the to-do list!

Hi all, so my husband and I are ready to make our direct-purchase with DVC! :cheer2:

We've been working with a guide for a few weeks now who always seems to be out of the office. I think my first communication with him 6/13/2021, and since then, he's been out of the office every week. He's now out of the office until Sunday. This has made this process less fun and more frustrating!

I wanted to move the purchase forward since I want to make reservations with the points for 2022. I'm not financing, so there isn't much that needs to be done except (I assume) paperwork and payment.

Should I try to connect with another guide? Should I be patient (so hard!) and wait again? Either way, thanks for listening!::MinnieMo

Is it just their weekend? I know my guide worked on Saturdays, but I think was off on Sunday and Monday? I don't know if every guide has the same weekend, but they could be off Friday and Sat and work Sundays (granted, I would think Friday and Sat are the busiest days...)

Yeah, that's possible now, except last time he was out of the office from Sunday-Wednesday.

If I really wanted to buy ASAP and my guide was out of town, I would call my guide, leave a msg if necessary and say I cannot wait til you get back. I need the name of someone who could facilitate in your absence. Now.

Possibly the guides work in tandem with someone. Split the commission.

Lesson learned, wait for my guide. My family requires a September UY, and as he told us, he would have to "go to the manager" to ask about it. When I called DVC now, we actually stopped processing the payment because they gave me a hard time about that UY. While this other guide was nice, the guide was pressuring me to have a July UY. Hard NOPE. If I'm paying a premium for direct points at a resort with active sales... and it's a LOT of money... I don't feel comfortable not getting the UY that is best for my family's travel schedule.

I'm not financing. I'm paying cash.... and I guess there's always the resale market if this is an issue. Hopefully, my guide and I will connect when he's back and resolve this.

Today doesn't feel very magical, unfortunately.

July isn’t even a UY!

Sorry this happened. Be firm about getting the UY you want. When they figure out that is the only way to get the sale, you will get it.

Thanks, @wnielsen1. I hope you are right! I was so excited to join DVC and have invested so much time in understanding the DVC system, and I just feel disheartened today.

Our guide told us about the difficulties with the UY when we told him last week. I understand, Disney doesn't want to give us "double points" or however they look at it. But, how is that my fault?

Fingers crossed it all works out.

That used to not be an issue. I suspect it has to do with the glut of points in the system. But I would still be firm on the issue.

"Double points" is just you getting the full allotment of current points, then soon after getting a new allotment of points when your new use-year begins. Disney has to have points available where the current-use year points haven't been used in order to sell them to you. If the points they have in inventory have already had the current points used (one-time-use points sold to members, points used for cash room reservations, etc.), then they can't sell you points for that use year. It does happen that towards the end of a use-year, they may run out of available points and you would have to wait until September for that use-year to be available again.

Then why did the guide say July? That's insane!! Wow.

I just knew that September was one because that's the one we need.
Maybe he meant June? 🤔 There are 8 UY’s, and I believe they are Feb, Mar, Apr, June, Aug, Sept, Oct, & Dec.

I used the phrase "double points" very loosely, and I understand that there are mechanics behind the system. However, the current incentives for RIV are through 8/4... If they want to lock in my price until September and accept my money then, sure, but somehow I don't see them doing that either.

I just know what is best for my family and our vacation plans.

This. Stand by what you know. I let my guide convince me what UY SHE thought was best, before I really understood how they worked, and we’ve regretted it ever since.
Curious why. What UY did she talk you into? So many people on here say UY doesn't really matter much. They can't all be retired, empty-nesters! There must be a real difference for some people in UY importance than others.

She sold us December. It wasn’t until I booked a Thanksgiving week vacation I realized that should we need to cancel for any reason we would forfeit those points since it’s too late to bank them and they would expire Dec. 1.

She only asked when we might think we’d take vacation each year when discussing UY. I wish someone had explained that an ideal UY would be the one where you’re least likely to travel in the 4 preceding months, especially since it’s something that cannot be changed.
