I am trying to add on 50 BLT points and have a few questions for my guide so I've emailed the inquiries to the guide. However, my guide will not respond to my emails via email. Even though I've asked to specifically to respond in writing I still receive calls and no email! Is this normal?

Just wondering/venting so I don't get so annoyed.

Thanks all!!!

It's not only normal, it's required. Guides are not allowed to "conduct business" via email.

As for "why" - anything a guide puts in writing legally binds Disney. Disney isn't going to give a guide that kind of power.

You know... I had a feeling that might be the answer.

Thanks for the info I do appreciate it!!

Many companies are extremely cautious about using e-mail to communicate with customers. In recent years, there have been at least three classes in the proper use of e-mail that my company has required all of its employees to take. Even internal e-mails between guides and other DVC employees could be subpoena'd in a lawsuit.

And with timeshares, there are special legal restrictions involved.

Bugs me too. :)

But I still do it that way...I'd rather he know what I'm asking about when he calls back, rather than start from scratch. And I leave particularly long and boring messages on voicemail, which is embarrassing in retrospect...better I send the long and boring email, for me. :rotfl:

editing to add....I figure if they didn't want you to use email at all, they wouldn't give you their email address.

My guide has been working exclusively with me via email...I explained that given my job I don't have the ability to talk in person during normal business hours. She understood and responds to my questions. The questions that I'm asking are the normal "how do i" or "what about/if" type.

Given that the Disney is standard in their approach and that the opportunity and information is the same for all, there is no rational reason why your guide can't respond to your questions via email. Fyi, spoke with my guides manager about a question that I had and was told guides "are" allowed to respond to questions via email but disney prefers that they do it in person...according to him up to your particular guide.

The DVC Guides work in several different units or groups. Some of their managers seem to allow some email, others don't allow any.
