DVC Guest Perks

I'm renting points from a DVC member. I've yet to get any additional discount for being a DVC guest other than those that regular on-site guests get. Am I missing something or are there no perks to being a DVC guest?

There are some discounts that DVC members get at some restaurants, miniature golf, etc. Technically, they are not supposed to be available to anyone except DVC members.

But when you check in, your room key says "DVC Member". So many renters have gotten the discounts based on that.

We are hearing that more and more places are asking members to show their blue identification card before getting a perk.

When a member checks in, they get a packet that includes a list of all the on-site perks. You should probably get that packet since the front desk really doesn't know that you are renting the points.

As I said, technically you don't have any rights to any of the perks. As a practical matter, you may be able to get some.

your key (ID) should say DVC member.

if it does sometimes the restuarant will give your the discount - sometimes they also demand the blue membership card.

so I guess it just depends.

Perks are actually only for the member and guests staying with them on points. As a renter, you are not entitled to any DVC member perks. But you may get them.

Some perks, like valet service and some restaurant discounts, are available using your blue membership card. Others, like pool hooping, are available only with the room ID stating "DVC Member". Cash reservations (unless reserved thru MS and linked to a points reservation) will not have the "DVC Member" designation.

One thing that I was surprised about earlier this month. We stayed at the Contemporary on points and during that time our KTTW had DVC Member on it. I didn't think you would get that on a room key outside of DVC. Our parking permit also had Member on it.

Remarkably (perhaps), it is completely possible (and perhaps most common) for folks to vacation at WDW doing a very small amount of advance planning, of the sort we discuss here, and carrying nothing with them to their vacation other than, perhaps, one lightly-read guide book. The remarkable thing I've noticed is that a substantial number of folks who do so little planning actually have an excellent time and cannot wait to go back. I'll hazard a guess that the percentage of satisfied guests is perhaps as high as with regard to those who do plan ahead. I don't think that they actually get more out of their vacation than active planners do, but I believe, perhaps, a greater percentage of their expectations are fully met.

Our guest was able to purchase discounted tickets at Typhoon Lagoon last week with only the DVC Member statement on her room key. We were there with our card in case she needed us, but she wasn't asked to show one.
