DVC Grand Floridian

Has anyone heard anything on when they are going to start selling points for the Grand Floridian resort? Me and my DH are thinking of adding on points somewhere and if they will start selling those soon we may wait and see what the price is going to be before we make a decision.

Just thinking out loud... They may be doing that on the 4 day member cruise this week. Members on the cruise may be able to give us additional information when they get back. Or they may wait until the cruise in January to open it up for purchase. Although it looks like the building is going up fast, there is still probably at least a years worth of work, likely more, before they are ready. Bay Lake Tower opened for purchase on the member cruise in '08. The resort opened around 10 or 11 months later. I don't think they like to start selling points more than a year before a resort is scheduled to open.

All that being said, I discussed possible point pricing with the DVC cast member at the DVC desk in the Grand Floridian back in April. I thought $160-$180 pp was likely where it would fall, and he did not disagree with me, in fact, he thought that was likely pretty close.

I agree. I think it will be around what BLT is...while the GF is a more expensive location then BLT you still can't walk to the MK from there and you still can't look out your window and see the rides turning in the park.

I always said the only thing that would make me want to give up my BWV is GF. But not at 3 times what I paid for BWV ($65), that's ridiculous. Plus the points per night will mostly likely be higher, making it even more expensive. I think that is just crazy. 250 points would be $50,000!

While I agree with you, what does a room at grand Floridian cost compared to other resorts? The typical gf customer would probably have more $ to spend and a gf DVC could be a bargain for them, of course this could be a hypothetical in my own mind as well. I've never stayed there as I can't afford it, nor would I buy there....well, cuz I can't afford it. But I do look forward to staying there in the future now!

I read on another thread that someone spoke to their Guide and was told Models would be open on Nov 4....not sure how accurate that is but I would imagine they would open soon.

For what it's worth, our new guide is at SSR- when I spoke to him last week about stopping in to see him I asked about looking at the GF model- he said he didn't think that it would be a possibility - so I don't think they've even started it yet? But I could be wrong..

Actually it has been reported that the construction of the new models for GF Villas is well under way...

Just too early for anyone from the public to view them..

Correct, Carol, it is well underway and visible (briefly) from the MK - TTC monorail.

The floors are laid and they are visibly active on the framing of the rooms. Lots of activity on the site last week.

I think that Carol is talking about the model at SSR not the resort at GF.

Normally they will have model rooms at the GF location in addition to the SSR sales center but SSR will be available for tours first.

I don't believe DVC has ever opened a new resort at a different base price than the then current resort in active sales. Thus I'd expect it to be the same price as BLT and it has nothing to do with location or demand per se. Now we may see a BLT price increase prior though my best guess is we won't see that until a couple of months afters sales start. They'll take care of any price adjustments if needed by adjusting the number of points which is also very likely to be the same as BLT for comparable options. I doubt the models will be open before a sales start date is announced but that should be somewhere late fall to early Winter with sales starting maybe March/April the way it sounds. We'll see.

I would be surprised if they would open the model before they are ready to sell. They have someone tour the model, give the sales pitch but then couldn't close the deal.

I'd guess they'll take reservation for Oct or Nov 2013.
