DVC from Australia

Hi all
My partner and I are real Disney nuts and I decided that I would take her to WDW for her first visit last year. Needless to say she loved it and we are now planning our next trip for next year.
I have been doing a fair bit of digging into dvc points rental and will most likely take that route for this trip however I feel like owning a small points dvc contract might be a good move for us as we plan to holiday in wdw every 2 to 3 years.
Because of this I think a small contract and the bank /borrow strategy might work for us. My questions are if we are not fussed what time of year we stay and what resort is there a particular resort that we should buy into? I have had a look at resale contract (as I cannot buy direct from Disney in Australia) and the small 25/50 point contracts don’t seem to come up too often (at least for the wdw resorts). Also I have read that you do not receive all the benefits of dvc when you buy resale.
Would a good workaround for this be to buy a small offsite contact then “top up” points from Disney at a wdw location? Would I then be able to sell or rent out the original purchase?

I probably haven’t written all that in the clearest way but any help would be appreciated.

SSR is your cheapest buy in. It sounds like you are trying to get a bit cute with things, with buying one contract just to get a small add on, then dumping that original contract. Really, it sounds like you are probably better off just renting every 2-3 years. You would lose a lot in closing fees in the flipping of contracts, and direct points are really pricy.

There is also almost no chance direct benefits would have any value for you, coming every 2-3 years.

We are also from Australia. We almost purchased Aulani points direct in Hawaii in April. Once we got back and did some learning we decided to just go for a lot more points buying Polynesian resale. Even not counting home resort privilege (which is paramount), 30% more points for the same purchase price is the difference between a nice stay and an awesomely comfortable stay. We also decided to buy enough points for a 2 week stay to justify 23 hours of flying, each way.

I looked into selling/exit strategy and it wouldn't be worth the hassle for us as international sellers (Withholding tax, filing exemptions etc). We are buying with full awareness that it's pre-paid accommodation at club rates rather than an 'investment'.

The veterans on this board are super helpful and knowledgeable. Read before you buy. Good luck!

I would say just stick with renting points out, that is a long flight from Australia and you never know how long a delay you could have which would cause you to cancel your whole trip.
