DVC FP+

If "too many" guests purchase Genie+, Disney can easily adjust to be sure the system works well enough to satisfy the purchasers. They can expressly limit the number sold or raise the price until the "right number" of guests purchase the service.

I think Disney would love to have everyone purchase Genie+, that would maximize their profit. Given the price point they set it at, a lot of people will be buying it.

except it doesn’t work then. The standby line would be 5 minutes and the genie+ would be telling you to come back in 6 hours.

for the system to work, standby has to be longer then return time, and return time needs to be max about an hour.

Tend to agree, but I do not think the return times will be an hour or less. It would be great if that is how it works out in practice.

It will be interesting to see how things actually work out after the system has been in effect for a few weeks/months. So far, all we have are assumptions along with the usual complaints (& a very few :thumbsup2 ).

For now, I am in the 🤞 camp.

That's very hard to predict. On one side it's cheap, on the other people used to have it for free. People may not even know it exists (many people thought the paper FP had a cost).
In DLR adoption of Maxpass was 40%. But on one hand it had a free alternative (people could still use paper FP), on the other the headliners are not included. And each WDW Park has fewer attractions than the easily parkhoppable (not a word) DL and DCA.

The best outcome for everyone is if no one buys it.

I haven't totally figured out his this Genie+ and the lightning pass is going to work, yet. But, I wonder if the lightning pass might be set up so they can apply surge pricing to it?

Right now, it is $15/day for GP+ which is the majority of the attractions...most expect it will go up yearly. The IAS is for the popular rides like SDMT, ROFR, etc. Those will not be part of GP+, and if one wants to avoid stand by or boarding group for those, you have to pay extra and they have already said that will be a flexible charge based on time of year.

So, apparently DFB is reporting the same thing. Are they going to match the block out dates from the Gold Pass, or enforce the Sorcerer Pass block out dates. Gold blocks out Easter, while the Sorcerer blocks out Thanksgiving.

Call me cynical, but I don't really believe what a phone CM tells me. They have been known to be wrong a lot.

Over on the Disneyland board, someone has a 2020 military ticket that they used once in early 2020 before the shut down, so of course its been extended. Phone CMs told that person that she (or he) could upgrade to a magic key pass and it would NOT be backdated to the date of first use...

I was thinking-what if one lightning pass cost like $100.00 (or so) during peak times between Christmas and New Years, for example. If they were applying some algorithm to the price that would result in a target wait time--like 5mins max (or whatever amount of wait time that guests would feel it was worth spending the extra money for it.) Fewer people signing up for it when it is more expensive, and more people signing up for it when it was less expensive. (But, overall I guess Disney could fix it so they were achieving the same amount of revenue).

I have no idea how this is all going to work. Just that it is going to cost me more $$. It's times like these that I think I should be buying Disney stock, instead of Disney tickets......

I don’t see it being that high, even for peak times. I think it will run…and this is a pure guess…from $10 to $30 a ride..which is still a decent amount.

I just wish they would announce more so that guests can start planning for it and make decisions on how the cost will play into the budget.

I think that guests staying on-site can get by without the additional Lightning pass cost because they will have early entry and can run to that one ride that will have the additional cost. Most will be able to get by with just Genie+ or even without it if they don't mind standby.

No ride is worth the extra cost!
Rise of the Resistance is.

Rise of the Resistance is arguably the best attraction Disney ever created.

Still, I've experienced Rise enough times that I'll never pay for it.

Not for ROTR or Remy…those require the BG. But for the others, yes, that is a strategy to avoid paying for IAS.

Remy and ROTR will not have standby?

They require you to get a boarding group first, If you get shut out of those, then no, you don’t get to ride,

I went 0-8 during my June and July trips. So the guests I was with who really wanted to ride did not get to. Had there been a pay option, they would have done it in a heartbeat because they won’t be back for several years.

While that might be true for you and your family, it won't be true for everyone. If you have people who go rarely and wish to experience to elite attractions while there, paying for the opportunity is something they will do. While it's really annoying to have to pay more, with what the rest of the Disney vacation costs, another $100 for a family to absolutely experience one of the elite attractions they have their heart set on is not going to stop them.

Others will draw the line and say "no way"!

Disney has described the $15 for Genie+ as an "introductory price."

That's code for "it's going to be even higher soon."

If lots buy Genie+, we'll quickly see a price increase to $20 along with the usual Disney corporate-speak: "Guests have made Genie+ one of our most popular offerings ..."

There is no doubt the price of Genie+ will change. It's very similar to MaxPass at DL, which started at $10 (at least that's the first price point I remember), went to $15 and is now $20. The same thing has happened to ticket prices, room prices, food prices - it's inevitable Genie+ will go up. It's just a matter of when and how high.

We will be there the week of 10/11 ,6 of us. Right now I'm pretty neutral about Genie+ and we'll see how it rolls out.
