I am a 4 year member have contracts at SSR and BLT, we currently go 3 times a year, mothers day, halloween and in January. We are a family of 4 and going more often while they are preschool. Does anyone know of any flight clubs or discount organizations for the frequent flyers? I already have all the point cards. Anyone know of any discounts for cabs or rental cars for dvc members? Also any signs of getting a better discount on annual passes for dvc members I know we get a disocunt but was hoping there would have been a little better than what is out there now, I know they are a life saver because we use ours and get every penny out of them. My guide told me in the beginning of the DVC passes were included and I know that isnt possible with the size and growth of the dvc. We love wdw and will continue to go and go and go but looking for a way to save a few pennys on flights and passes which our are biggest problems.

I'd be surprised to see any better discounts on APs. Our DVC discounts are nearly equivalent to Fl Resident APs now. Prior to the AP discount we were offered 10% off Length of Stay Passes.

We early purchasers did receive free passes, but only for half the occupancy limit of a villa, so to get 4 free passes, you needed to stay in a 2 bedroom unit. The free passes were a purchase incentive, like the Developers points and discounts we see today. We received free passes if we stayed at OKW, through December 31, 1999.

I assume you have a rewards credit card of some type, and an airline frequent flier program. I don't personally know of any other "discount" type clubs for airfare.

DVC does have a discount code for National and Alamo, the code used to be on the member website. If it isn't there, you can call DVC for it. However, I have found that I get better Alamo discounts using other codes, like my Chevron Travel Club code.

At most destinations, you can save money by really shopping for rental cars. Disney seems to be a sellers' market for rental cars, and I was surprised how expensive cars were there when I checked prices recently, but if you are willing to do a little work, you might save.

I don't pay much attention to codes and "special discounts" with travel costs, because I've usually found they are discounts off the rack rate, but somewhat more expensive than I can get just by being a prudent consumer. Check them, but don't automatically accept them...especially on rental cars.

I start at one of the major travel sites like Expedia to do my initial shopping. There are two things you have to watch out for at those sites -- "Preferred" vendors" and the car description.

Most sites have preferred vendors, who are preferred only because they pay the site money to be preferred -- which means having their offers at the top of the list. But just because the site loves them to death doesn't mean they will give you the best price.

Fortunately, most sites give you the option to sort by price low-to-high. That is always my starting place.

Unfortunately, the lowest price is not always the lowest price because the car descriptions are just marketing ploys. What one company advertises as a "mid-size" might be a "compact" to other companies. So you not only have to check price, you have to check the actual cars offered to be sure you are doing an apples to apples comparison. One company's "midsize" may be a MUCH better value than another company's. Most sites have an option to show the actual car descriptions, and that is very helpful.

I also usually follow the travel site exercise by going to the rental car company's website to make the actual rental reservation. Two reasons: 1) I don't pay up front like I would have to on some travel sites, so I'm not in a jam if my plans change, and 2) I can sign up for the company's frequent renter program while I'm there. You should always sign up for that because it's free and saves you a lot of time standing in line when you pick your car up.

One other thing you have to REALLY watch in car rentals is extra fees if you are turning the car in somewhere different from where you picked it up. On a trip to CA a few years ago, I got a good rate from one company. But when I added in their "drop-off fee," it was costing me $200 more than another company who didn't charge any dropoff fee for picking up the car at LAX and turning it in at SFO.

We use the Disney Chase Visa card and charge just about everything on it and pay it off monthly. We use the rewards to offset the price of our annual passes.

As far as rental cars, the best deals I have found have been from what I found on Mousesavers.com - we usually use Dollar (Kiss2 code from the Kissimmee visitor's guide) or Entertainment book coupons for National or Alamo. I usually pay from $100 to $150 for a full size car using those discounts. I keep checking rates right up to the time we leave, too. Kayak is a good site to check rental car rates.

Have you thought about foregoing a rental car and using ME? We are thinking about trying it next time because it was too expensive at MCO and a hassle to pick up and return at the Dolphin. This, even though we are from CA and we may be prevented from coming back in the state if we do without a car for more than a week!

In regards to credit card miles, there are lots of ways to earn additional miles without flying, but seeking them out can be almost a full time job. Start with the flyertalk.com BB for your preferred airline and soon you'll be churing CCs, shopping thru miles portals, dining at obscure restaurants on M-W for double miles, and even doing some mileage or mattress runs.

Best of luck -- Suzanne

drive? You wouldn't have to buy plane tickets or rent a car.

I fly SW out of Midway all the time and am a member of their rewards program. Plus I use my American Express card for a lot (especially when I'm in FL) and transfer the points I earn to SW. Gets me free flights a lot faster.

Does Spirit Airlines fly from your airport? If they do you can join their $9 club and they send you deals. It costs about $40 a year but we can get flights sometime for less than $50 round trip out of Detroit.

Also sign up for Airfare Watchdog. It's an e-newsletter. You pick your home airport and the cities you want to fly to and they send you a daily email with current deals and promotions.

Last trip down, May 1 thru 10, rented from Alamo using COSTCO.com and it only cost me $ 295 for a full sized car for the 10 days. WHen I went on my own through Alamo or National (which I have a member card) the price was over $600 for the same deal.
I took the $ 300 and put it toward the annual passes we bought.

In December we'll more than likely use the Magical Express. We've done that before and found it very workable. And it doesn't cost anything.

Keep watching airline pricing for as long as you can.
If you can use Jet Blue you ight get lucky. Try pricing flights on a Wednsday near or after midnight. Taht's when the airlines will offer limited deals on pricing to try to fill up the planes. Sometimes you get lucky.
Otherwise try Priceline and offer a price for the tickets. You never know.

There are draw backs to some of these but if you're willing to take a few chances and can be flexible with your plans, you just might do very well.

Good luck.

LESS than $50 RT?? Wow, I've flown Spirit before out of DTW but never that cheap. I never bought into the $9 fare club though so maybe that's the difference. However after I added the seat assignment fee plus the checked bag fee plus the buy-your-refreshment-on-the-plane fees, I'm cheaper and simpler flying Southwest out of Columbus (CMH). We're NW Ohio so DTW or CMH are great options for us. Wish Dayton had cheaper flights, that's the closest to us.

Might consider the $9 fare club though!
