DVC exchange to Mexico

Hi-
I am so excited. I was able to exchange 124 DVC VWL points for 7 nights at the Royal Sands Resort in Cancun, Mexico.

When I purchased DVC, I never really thought we would be able to trade for different vacations. We go to Disney 2-3 times per year and my husband needs a little change of pace.
Hopefully it will be a nice trip!

that's great. Did you exchange with someone who has a timeshare in Mexico? How did you find this. Is there an exchange board somewhere? I'd be interested to see what is out there. thanks,

When did you apply for the exchange?

When is your trip to Cancun?

If we do not do the "rumored" med. cruise, would love to do an exchange here.

Thanks-we are really excited!

I did the exchange through DVC. I called on Friday am and had it booked in 20 minutes. It's for a 1 bedroom 12/9-12/16/06.

I researched the World Passport Collection on the DVC site...they have a link to the Interval International Properties. At first I was interested in Aruba but I checked the airfare and it was very high. Cancun seemed resonable so that's what I tried for. The first resort I liked-Royal Mayan, was only available the end of Sept-beginning of March. The other two I was able to choose from: Royal Sands/1 BR for 124 points and Royal Islander/studio for 106 points. The points required is based on size of room and season.

I also joined TUG-Timeshare Users Group for $15 to read all the reviews on the properties available. This helped a lot in deciding where I would like to go.

IDo be aware that the studios there are really just a hotel room with even less amenities than a DVC studio and no real kitchen to speak of at all if I recall correctly and this is c/w what I see on the II exchange listings. It's great to get a 1 B. Be aware that this and the adjacent week are the only one's that are low season for Cancun.

For others interested, this week could likely be rented for in the $500-700 range for a 1 BR.
