Why is it that Florida Res and AP get more discounts then DVC . Did we not say we will come every year till 2042.

Maybe I am missing the point. I bought DVC for the value it represents in DVC vacations. The other collections, exchange options, perks, discounts, etc were for us, irrelevant. And unless I am mistaken, were never part of the contract (implied or written).

DVC members are committed guests (at least for lodgings). Florida residents are not. AP holders have a program where one AP pass used to secure a deep discount code at a deluxe resort can pay for itself with one 4 night stay. So the dynamics of how that program works and how "committed" an AP holder is may be a bit more complex. I suspect that Disney feels that both groups are less committed and therefore they spend more (better discounts) to capture their dollars. I am not a markeing guru, so this may be bad logic.

Having said that, certainly I would welcome more discounts, and I certainly would welcome a more easy to use discount program. Do I believe that a good AP discount would bring DVC members to the parks more frequently, increasing other on- property expenditures over and above the lost ticket revenue -- Yes, but I can not prove it. Do I believe a broad sit-down restaurant discount would keep DVC members on property for more and more expensive meals - Yes, but I can not prove it.

I believe many DVC members go more than once a year and would like to have a discount on the AP's. They have already invested the money in lodging, a little more perks for admission(other UPH's) would be nice.

I wish this poll had been multiple choice: I love the discounts we have; considering we only bought a time-share, all the 5 / 10 / 20 percent discounts are a nice bonus.

However, I wouldn't mind more. Heck, let's shoot for the moon! I think that every DVC Villa should have free UPHs for every guest! Free food! Free drink! Free admission to all the hard-ticket events! [But my dues better not go up!]

Seriously, right now, we all know that SSR is / will be the biggest DVC resort. I also think we can all agree that, for the first few (1-5) years after most people buy in to DVC, they really focus on the parks and other on-site facilities - that's a big reason they bought DVC and not Marriott. So, for the next few years, Disney probably doesn't think "off-site defection" is an issue big enough to justify AP discounts. However, once we get in the "5-10 year after purchase" time-frame for SSR, and the novelty has worn off a little, I bet that some marketing programs aimed at getting DVCers back in the parks will be offered. Unless, of course, they build a DVC resort even bigger than SSR - then we're out of luck....

Sure, we'd like more or deeper discounts. But the phrase "they keep taking things away" is not an objective response.

As others have indicated, the discounts are a nice bonus. We have used them often when we didn't have AP's. If we have AP's we find them to be a little better in general than the DVC discounts. However, we find ourselves leaning away from AP's because of the renewal policy and so we spend less time in the parks. If enough of us do that, Disney may choose to "woo us back" with some more discounts.

Although I am happy with what I have, I do have a greedy streak in me.:teeth:

Since I am busy dropping a lot of money at WDW on a regular basis, I think it would be nice if they gave us a little more in return. ::yes::

And the minute we get that little extra, I will immediately ask for a little more. ::MickeyMo

All this poll is going to do is show that people have varying expectations for additional discounts--either "sure, it would be nice" or "gimme, gimme, gimme."

The topic was argued to death a couple days ago in this thread:

And I'll ask the same question here that I did there: to those who believe they are entitled to additional discounts, what are you going to do about it?

Limit my "other" Disney spending:

*Use banking and borrowing to make multiple trips on a single AP

*With the poor renewal policy, skip one or more years between the purchase of APs

*Spend cash on the property so my DVC member purchases aren't tracked

*Skip any impulse purchases on the property

*Eat most meals in, and make a point of visiting offsite restaurants

*Stay at WDW DVCs and visit the competition's theme parks and other Orlando attractions

*Teach my kids that saving money so our family can vacation frequently is much more important than buying and hauling home overpriced trinkets.

*Teach my kids to window shop and respond to the phrase: "Put it back", We have fun with this, but our kids do not to beg.

*Make use of the Disney outlets in Orlando malls for a few (if any)Disney gifts. Bought new pooh light-up spinners there for $4. they are $13 in the park.

*On the next trip, bring those same light-up spinners back for use at specrtomagic and fantasmic.

*Vacation often at HH and VB where no park passes are needed.

*Rent points out to fund other vaction options all together.

Johnnie Fedora:

Great list. I count at least 6 of them that we already do ourselves...without having made a concerted effort to "stick it" to Disney for not offering more discounts.

And I suspect that the two of us aren't alone in that regard.

Nevertheless, DVC doesn't seem inclined to pony-up the types of discounts to which many seem to think they are entitled. In other words, it ain't gonna change a darn thing.

Agree. Except that I don't really believe people are thinking that they are entitled to more discoounts; just that they would be nice, particularly when other groups are getting them.

I do think some people believe they are entitled. Why else do we continue to see posts that say they invested or spent a lot of money on DVC? Bet we see at least one in nearly every thread that talks about discounts.

Best wishes -

I guess that DVC members must be a younger crowd now.....

I remember when admission to the parks were included...FREE when vacationing to OKW owners..............

Magic Kingdom Club Card gave 10% discounts.......

Now...thats a perk!!

For the purpose of these types of threads:

Entitled=desired=wish for=should offer=would like to see= deserve=hope for, etc. all mean the same thing. At least in my mind. Many of these words can also be used in sentences that describe how Disney views the DVCers spending habits.

As far as "sticking-it" to Disney...not really, just talking in their language ($). For me, a business model that is more generous to repeat customers is an incentive to visit and spend again (as long as thier product is good). That applies to many recreation dollars we spend, at home and away. DVCers that are happy with the current offerings may feel Disney quality will go down or too many discounts will negatively impact the overall program...dunno.

We really like our DVC accommodations, and Disney family vacations, just I feel there is room for improvement in this area.

I respectfully disagree, Johnny. There's a big difference between "I'm entitled to..." and "I wish for....".

From www.dictionary.com (American Heritage Dictionary):

entitled: To have a right or claim to something

wish: To long for; want.

Do I "long for" a DVC AP discount? Yes.

Do I "have a right or claim" to one? No.

[Sorry to get pedantic, team, but when someone changes the rules of the discussion by equating a series of words and phrases that have differing meanings, I have to resort to an appeal to authority ;) ]

Well, I agree with the crowd that says more discounts/benefits would be nice, but I realize that would be above & beyond what I purchased.
I don't have any problem with getting some extras, but I'm miffed as to how anyone could complain if they don't.

We recently bought a new car, and I certainly don't expect the dealer to continually put gas in it for me. :teeth:

Huh?...rules of discussion  ;) We're just sharing opinions here, right? None of us are "Disney royalty"...as least, not that I know of!:p ;)

Speaking just for our family, I have been "wishing" for an AP discount since first becoming a DVC member (2001). I don't think me or DH (Johnnie Fedora) feels "entitled" to one.
It's subjective how people interpret "entitlement" behavior. I see what I would describe as member "entitlement" behavior every time we visit WDW. For example, IMO, I could imagine that this entitled DVC member may have no issues with available member discounts.
We don't make a great plan out of sticking it to Disney. We do make somewhat of an effort not to over spend so that we put our money where our mouth is. If we aren't happy about the lack of offers, we need to back it up. Will our little lack of contribution change things? Probably not. I just keep hoping that things will change.

Once again I agree with Dr. T.

I wish we had more discounts - would love to see us get the same rates on AP's as Florida residents.

Are we entitled to that? No

I think there is a big difference in "wish" and "entitled".

Another point I agree with.

As this poll stands now about 87% of the votes indicate that members are entitled to/desire/wish for/should be offered/would like to see/deserve or hope for better discount options. A separate poll would have to be created to subcatagorize the motivation of each individual DVCer about the discount topic. Doesn't really matter from a business standpoint, all roads lead to the same wanted destination...better discount land. ::yes::

Your list is too funny. We do all of the above sans the kid stuff, but if we had them, we would do those too!

I thought we were the only ones who paid cash at the restaurants so we couldn't be tracked! :earseek:

I've said it before and I'll say it again. I have very low expectations for Disney to get us any type of "useful" discount.
In turn, Disney should have very low expectations for my $$.

Oh no, Disney has very high expectations for our $$. They're entitled to it! ::yes::

Sorry...couldn't resist that on a late Friday afternoon! :p
