How many people do they put you with on the Family Magic Tour? My family would love to do this, but we tend to be shy around people we don't know (even at Disney).

I just called WDW tours to book the Family Magic Tour for our April trip. According to our member website, we get a 20% discount.

I was told that the 20% is only go until March 31st, then it goes down to 15%. Looks like it will be for all tours.

They should have this up on the member website. I'll call Member services tomorrow.
You are right on this one. It is listed at a 20% discount in the easiest place to find the member perks, so why would you have to look in another place on the DVC site. Should you asume this was wrong? If the discount has changed it should be changed everywhere on the web site so there is no confusion. MS should be aware of this and you are right to want to contact them. You were just pointing it out and you were right in standing up for yourself. The flaming was way overboard.

The problem is that the discount HASN'T changed. It is GOING to change, and the website listing is for the CURRENT discounts.

Yes, it is "current" and subject to change....but MOST people book their vacations way in advance. When they go to the member website to look at the current deals for a vacation that is a little as 1 month away, they would expect that unless it was otherwise stated, that the "current" prices or discounts would still be valid. All I am saying, and I think most others agree, is that the member website that shows the "current" discount of 20% should now have a disclaimer that it is good through March 31st 2006, and that it will return to the 15% as of April 1st.....just so we aren't surprised by it.

Is that too much to ask????

Yes, I do think it IS too much to ask. If you want to find out whether the discount is available for your trip, I don't think it is inappropriate to ask. But, since discounts do regularly change (in some cases on a monthly basis it seems), the simplest and most reliable means of posting information is to post the current discounts. This avoids confusion. Think about it the other way--a new discount is coming in. Posting that could be very confusing. I really think this is the same thing. But, again, we can agree to disagree. When Disney changes their ticket prices, even though the ticket price changes are often known a little in advance, the new prices are not actually posted until they take effect. The website should have current information listed under the perks page. Additional information about future changes in perks can be posted in other places on the website as it is now, IMHO. Plus, we are discussing this on the DIS. So, this approach helps to retain the information advantage for those of us to actively participate on the DIS, LOL. ;)

As was stated, you can still get 20% off with the Disney Visa card. My wife and I took the "Keys to the Kingdom" tour in January and it was wonderful, highly recommended. Maybe next time we'll do the Backstage Magic... I just wasn't ready to spend over 3x the cost for only 2-3 more hours of tour!

Is that too much to ask????
Yes. I believe it is. Balancing the conflicting needs of promoting what needs promotion and predicting what information a random member might want is an impossible dichotomy. The website is, without exception, NOT the definitive source of information (which in the case of DVC, is the Member Guidelines booklet). The website is an aide for members, nothing more. If members don't use the aide correctly, then they will be disappointed, and it will be their own fault.

This is true of many websites. Be sure, when visiting a website, you read and understand fully the terms and conditions of use of the website. If you don't you're just begging for the kind of confusion the OP found himself in.

Why is it this way? We don't pay companies enough for them to provide accurate information on their websites. You can hem and haw that you pay XXXX and that means you deserve YYYY but you'd be wrong. You deserve only what you're explicitly promised, and in the case of most websites, you are promised, effectively, that the accuracy of the information on the website will not be assured.

Wow...a couple of you are getting WAY too worked up about my comment. I'm sorry....I didn't say I was going to scream and yell, didn't say I was going to get a laywer and sue, or threaten anyone. I fully understand that the accuracy of the information on ANY website is not guaranteed.

All I said was I was going to call MS and inform them that the information was out of date. If they chose to do something about it, fine....if not, fine as well. I just figured that if the info was incorrect, someone should be made aware of it, so it doesn't confuse others.

Sorry, I don't sit around and accept every mistake that is thrown my way, saying "oh well, that's life"......If I see something that is incorrect, I at least take the time to inform someone that it is wrong so that it can be fixed. Same as when I'm at WDW and find a bathroom that is out of paper towels, or toilet paper....I will take time out of my day to find a CM and inform them. It will help others. That's called common courtesy....guess some of you don't have that.

I was in no way upset with DVC and not blasting the change....I just wanted to make others aware of the change and that it was not stated when you followed the links.
Thanks unixadm for your post. Appreciate the info :)

Wow...a couple of you are getting WAY too worked up about my comment.
I would appreciate it if you don't demean what myself and others say by trying to trivialize it in this manner.

All I said was I was going to call MS and inform them that the information was out of date.
No, actually if that was all you said, then I, for one, wouldn't have replied. Rather, you suggested that the website "should" (your word, not mine) be different than what it is. If you say that, and there are folks who disagree with you, then you have to accept that they will post their objections to what you've said. That's the way online communities work. You've had your say, so please allow those that disagree with you to have their say, without saying rude things like, "a couple of you are getting WAY too worked up".

Again, thanks in advance for your consideration.

Sorry, I don't sit around and accepts every mistake that is thrown my way, saying "oh well, that's life".
No one is suggesting you should. This is, however, not a mistake. That's what people have been trying to tell you.

That's called common courtesy....guess some of you don't have that.
I think you need to take a good long look at your messages, and your conduct in this thread. You're utterly off-base, and you owe us an apology for saying what you've said.

I owe an apology????? I think not.....

Read my FIRST post..

This was in NO way out of line....but then by post 3, I am ATTACKED. Others recognized it as an attack....EVEN YOU!!!

some people on this board are just plain nasty and always looking for a fight.

i hope i never make a mistake on here or come across as whiny... yikes :scared:

Of course I am going to answer back.

I am requesting this thread to be closed. It has gone to far downhill.

but then by post 3, I am ATTACKED.
Yes, you definitely were. And the offender apologized to you.

Of course I am going to answer back.
And answering back to the rudeness was appropriate. Attacking me because someone else attacked you makes no sense.

I am requesting this thread to be closed.
That sounds like a good idea.

I'm sorry for my comment. That was a bit over the line. I didn't mean to flame, mearly defending the fact that I was just trying to help people in general with the updated information and make sure it was correct. I was being told I was wrong for doing that. Because I was initially attacked, I was in defensive mode and I made a comment that I shouldn't have.

I agree with you 100%. If it is noted on the site, then when people call ms to book this, they will have all the correct info. If they call and the discount is different , then you may hang up and change plans to something else when you talk to the family or friends that are going and then call ms again to book the new reservations. This can mean 2 calls or a longer initial call to find something different to book, tying up ms lines a little longer. Seems it would cut down on the ms calls to have it right the first time, thus saving members the extra call charges for their dues.

Wow, I clicked on this thread even though my family doesn't take tours, just because it was at 3 pages. For the life of me I couldn't guess why someone posting a discount change would get so many responses! I was thinking wow, are people that upset about the 5%? :rotfl2:

To the OP, thanks for the info! :)

:rotfl2: :lmao: I've been reading this thread just for laughs. I keep calling my DF over to see what is said next. :coffee: Really, folks...this is just silly.
