Today while shopping at the Disney Store, I was dealing with a new CM who had to call another CM over to help with the transaction. But while the other CM helped, she mentioned to the newer CM that not to worry about learning how to do it because just like the Disney Club, they were doing away with the DVC Discount! I tried questioning her further on this subject but obviously she clammed up since I was not suppose to her this comment!

Anyone else hear of such a dreadful deed?

Scratch42, sorry this is off topic. but I did not realize you are a DVC member!!!!

I was just at our local Disney Store and the same thing happened. They originally told me that there is no longer DVC discount and then later told me that it was just the system did not work, but the discount is still there. It is a bit frustring though. However, given Disney is trying to sell these stores, who knows what will happen later.

It is still in effect. The likelihood that the remaining stores will be sold is high. If they are sold, I doubt that the DVC discount will continue. I hate to lose any benefit but this one has pretty much outlived any usefulness for me. There are few Disney Stores left in my area and they have zero merchandise of interest.

Yep, I finally came to my senses!LOL I purchased last summer after I realized just how much I was spending on regular hotel stays! Some of us are just slow learners!LOL

But back to the Discount, or lack thereof, should they not give us a heads up so that we can take advantage! I end up spending more because of the discount but if they take that away, I'll probably will stay away too!

I'm with PamOKW on this one - TDS now carry so little of interest to me that I don't visit them anymore. Used to spend at least 15-20 minutes in there and come out with purchases every time I went to the mall. Can't even remember the last time I bothered to check one out and it's not because I'm tired of Disney stuff!

IMHO, TDS made a big mistake when they went to their current format. DVC DS discount doesn't much matter to me anymore since I don't go there. I even buy my park hopper tickets somewhere else.

I agree with the above posters - TDS how has almost nothing that I am interested in any more!!! When DD got married in 1997, we spent many hours in these stores buying favors and items for her to use at her wedding. Thereafter, we spent lots of $$$ on shirts, pajamas, etc. for us and as gifts. Now it's just toys and plush, which I am sure are wonderful for some shoppers but not so much for us anymore. What a shame!!

So true. DW worked at the DS for 7 years, starting in 1994. Seemed like most of her check went for merch. Now, we don't even both to go in most of the time. Actually stopped in one a few days ago, and spent about 2 mins. Nothing worth buying. And they wonder what went wrong. However we miss the days of her CM status. Sure was nice. Even got discount on buying DVC.

Ever since becoming members, we've been really taking advantage of the discount. In fact, I used it this past weekend again. I'll be very sad if that discount is discontinued. :(

I am a TDS CM and we have had no notification of losing the DVC discount.

How has it changed? The one closest to me closed, so I hadn't been in a few years, but I was at another mall and stopped in. They had cute pajamas...bought two pair for DS. (Of course, couldn't find my DVC card!!)

What kinds of things did they used to have that you miss? Just curious.

TerryS,

You're a CM? :D

I just used our card last week at the store in Okemos. It's always the same 2 people working so I rarely run into a problem. They did ask for my I.D., though. They said they now have to do that whenever someone uses their DVC card.

floridafam... Yes, I normally work 1 day a week. Unfortunately, I became a CM after I bought all my points.

We have run into the same situation before ourselves. I think it depends on which CM you get. We went in recently and one CM said no, they did away with DVC discount. Another CM came up and told that CM she was misunderstood, they did away with the Disney Club discount. Turns out the CM who knew owned at DVC.

Have them call MS on the back of your card next time to verify.

Some one asked about the difference now. They used to have tons of very nice collectables, and a great line of adult clothes. Fall/spring jackets, polo shirts, dress shirts, ties, sweaters, as well as a long line of womens' clothing also. Also, nice accesories, such as wallets, purses, and so forth. Now, you are lucky if you can find one style of adult tee and one style sweatshirt. They used to have some great snow-globes, as well as some fine collectable pieces, such as Disney Wedgewood china pieces. Crystal figures, etc.etc.etc. Now it seems mostly kids clothes, and what a lot of people refer to as carnival toys. It is definatly not the place she started at 10years ago. And, the floor was loaded with staff trying to help, as well as guests looking for that Disney experience.

The DVC discount at the Disney Stores is definately still valid. I'm surprised that so many cast members are still getting confused between the old Disney Club Card that went away at the end of last year and DVC. I think one of the problems is that most people including Disney Store cast members don't really know what DVC is (especially if no cast member at the store is a member).

However, given Disney is trying to sell these stores, who knows what will happen later.

What did I miss? Are Disney Stores being sold? Why? We just lost the one in our area but I thought it was due to high rent.

I have to agree wholeheartedly. The Disney store has really gone downhill in the past few years. I have not found anything I had to have other than videos in a long time.
