DVC Discount for 2017 is 20%...or not??

Last year I had an AP and I was able to get 20% off my table service meals and all Disney merchandise (Disney owned and operated). I received something in the mail from DVC last week stating that DVC members get 20% off for 2017. The Member Services CM told me it is subject to change and that discount could go away at any time and if I want a guaranteed 20%, I need to get another AP. I called about something else and another Member Services CM asked me if I knew about the DVC 20% discount for shopping (only). She then told me the 20% for members expires in October.

So which is it?

DVC perks are subject to change at any point in time.
Currently they are 20% shopping and 10% at most restaurants.
DVC holds sessions with the other Disney divisions and gets what perks they can negotiate with the other divisions or the other divisions are willing to offer. With DVC membership they have some power for numbers that DVC can bring into the resorts but they are not a majority as people staying in both onsite and offsite hotels and locals coming in for the day, far out number the DVC daily totals. With any business it is the bottom line that must improve each quarter.

I was told no discount on ready to eat food at the Saratoga shop/counter service. (bagel, piece of fruit)
Also, at Disney Springs, some of the shops don't offer the discount. I was able to get a 10% discount at Pandora and Vera Bradley....but not at Lilly Pulitzer.

Hi! I was told 20% off at DISNEY OWNED & OPERATED merchandise locations. Some other stores have and do still offer 10 or 15% discounts. Also, more restaurants were added in for at least 10% discounts this year (Ohana, CRT, Chef Mickey's are a few).

If that is the case, it is nuts for DVD marketing to send out a small booklet to all members (including both in the same household) stating that the discount is for 2017. It is a waste of money, really.

It was something we received in the mail last week. It was about a 5x7 or 6x8 booklet. It came in a silver (shiny) envelope. One was sent to me and another to my husband. Seems silly to send one to both members in the same house. In the booklet, it noted the aforementioned discounts stating it is for 2017. I tossed both of ours, otherwise I would take a picture of the verbiage and post it.

What differs right now is the dining discounts. Typically, they have been similar with a limited list of applicable restaurants with usually a 10% discount but a small number higher. It then increased last year for the 45th of WDW. I believe that the discount at DL remained 20%. We have both Annual passes and DVC and the discounts for merchandise have generally been the same except for some non-Disney owned stores.

You are correct. I was incorrectly remembering the merchadise DVC discount as being 20% in line with the AP when it began, but when it was adotped in late 2012, it was 10%, as was the AP discount, and both increased starting with the 45th

The 20% discounts in stores had not been around for a few years. It had been reduced to 10 for awhile until this promo.

Clearly, Disney's rules (subject to change at any time) are not noted. "In 2017" indicates the full year to me.
