DVC deposits into RCI

Can someone clarify:

My relatives own several weeks of timeshares and are part of RCI.

Can they bank their weeks and trade for DVC?

They are not on a point system.

Thanks

Yes, RCI Weeks owners can trade into DVC. As Chuck noted, it will be dependent on the trading strength of the resort banked and when it was banked. (The earlier the better - up to a year ahead.)

I was able to reserve a week at SSR next fall using what I consider to be a weak trader ( a White week at a resort in GA ) - but one I banked into RCI a full year in advance.

RCI weeks members don't really have the ability to view DVC availability online except with a week already banked.

Doubtful as St. Marteen is the Branson/Orlando/LV of the Caribbean. Maybe if you get a week 7 or similar deposited 10 months or more out OR you're around the 45 day window.

No offense, Dean, but it's still the Caribbean, and it was on both the II and RCI DVC approved list... I will give you that there are some very marginal timeshares in the area though (ahem.. original Pelican Resort .. ahem..)

I'm thinking that the problem with this deposit is my FIL put it in about a month or two before they were about to travel as my BIL decided not to go that year (my FIL owned 2 units at that time). Reading what I have about RCI, this was probably a pretty late deposit. It does pull Hiltons though (Orlando and Vegas) as well as Bonnet Creek and Big Cedar which is a bit perplexing...

I will give you that his Legend's Edge (which he deposits as a lockoff via FL Club at Ocean Pointe) trades much better due to the internal Marriott preference in II...

Hence my contention that gearing up the BVTC to allow direct exchanges to companies like Hilton, Hyatt, Westin, Wyndham, Bluegreen, Shell and the like would have been far better. Even Marriott if they get their internal trade system going themselves. I don't think DVC or the members are especially well served with a general exchange company membership. DVD may be a different matter due to the ability to rent out excess inventory. Of course the two are not necessarily exclusive of each other so hopefully we'll see more direct exchange options down the road.

We had a straight up offer for Westin St John for a DVC week. I don't know if we will take it or not since we go to the Caribbean every year anyway, but I agree with Dean, I think that direct exchanges could net you much more than an exchange company, of course, you do have to have some faith in the person you are trading with...

If it is pulling Bonnet Creek, and you want an Orlando trip, you might accept that. While not DVC, and not "onsite" as far as perks, it has the best location of any offsite timeshare, relative to Disney. I've heard it is a nice resort.

It won't be the same feeling/ambiance as a true Disney trip, but better than nothing.

Hey Chuck, no, one of my "side jobs" is to be the online eyes for his exchanges. I don't know where he wants to trade to. I was just looking b/c it is an RCI weeks and I was interested to see if it would pull DVC...

Late deposits are a problem but St. Marteen in general trades less well than would the same week and resort from other places in the Caribbean. Being on the DVC exchange list means nothing as there is no preference given just because you're on the list DVC members can trade out to.

I'd guess that you might have had a fighting chance if the unit was deposited a year in advance. A couple months in advance? No hope. RCI really dings trade power for "late" deposits, much more severely than II does.

Right now, only weeks with top-tier trade value are seeing the Orlando DVCs. That might be adjusted with time once the pent-up demand in RCI is met. January's banking disappeared before the month was out---we'll see if the same thing happens to February's much larger set of units. If so, don't expect the trade power required to be relaxed anytime soon.
