I have a couple of questions for you DCL & DVC experts.

1 - If we owned DVC points and didn't have enough for our cruise, instead of borrowing points from upcoming years, can we pay the difference in cash?

2 - If I have a cash reservation made for last year for a specific cabin, then decided to use my points for the entire cruise, would I still get my onboard booking credit (from when I originally booked this cruise)? Would I be able to keep the same stateroom # I had reserved?

3 - Do DVCrs get credit for rebooking during sailing?

To the best of my knowledge:
As long as the first person in each cabin is "paid" with points, you can pay cash for the rest. DVC has worked out their cash price with DCL. It doesn't depend on early booking, it's the same price no matter when you book.

I asked one time about making cash ressies, then converting to DVC and they said I couldn't do it. I'd have to cancel my cash ressies then rebook with DVC. Of course, the time it would take to call and cancel then call and rebook, your particular cabin could be "sold". Therefore, I would assume (but you know what they say about that!) that your onboard booking credit would be lost.

It used to be you could get a points discount if you rebooked on board. Now you have 3 days after your return to call MS and rebook your cruise for a discount. If we wait (and we will) until this Nov. to book our next Oct. trip we will save 150 points! (that is 3 cabins, 9 people, cat. 10's). It's a pretty good savings considering it's the only one there is!

hope this helped! happy sailing!

You can use partial points per person. So if you have enough points for a few of the passengers you can use them. I'm not sure about the credit. If I convert one of my reservations to points, I may get the points discount for booking onboard but I will not get the $200 I currently have. Call DVC for the most accurate answers.

One adult must be fully booked on points. You can do any comination of a whole person after that with points and cash. Remember you have to pay the DVC cash rate which is usually significantly higher than the DCL early booking discount. You cannot pay for a single person with a combo of points and cash.

If you change from cash to points you will be totally cancelling and rebooking. While there's a slim chance you could get the same cabin, I doubt it. You would lose the credit.

There is a small discount for booking DVC while on board. You can only book up to 14 months out this way though. You basically sign up while on board then call MS when you return, you must call within 3 days of your return. If you're within the 11 month window, you simply book at that time. If 11-14 months, you call then call back at the 11 month window.

Another option you can do is rent your DVC pts on the DVC Rent board(usually around $10 pt) and pay cash for your cruise through DU. This way you can book farther in advance.....get on-board credit......and rebate. Also you won't have to pay the $75 booking fee like you do through DVC.
Also you can get a full refund with DU in case somthing came up.;)

Ahhhh....good thinking! I was mostly curious about this because we're almost 100% positive we're buying into SS, but we have a 7-day already booked for next December (2004). I was wondering if I should just pay cash for that and leave my points alone. I like our stateroom number and we have $250 onboard credit already -- not to mention the early booking price (CAT6 = @$3000 total). I guess I'd have to do the math on that one!

Thank you everyone! :)
